Mike and TO

Riley has been the coach for some time now and I still get the feeling that his relationship with Tom isn't all that friendly. Am I imagining this? I do appreciate that Mike has said he wants an association with TO that's not contrived or forced. Is Tom so pissed over the firing of Bo that he'll never be able to get behind Mike's hiring?

I really thought this was another thread comparing another one of out head coaches to TO. Are they supposed to be skipping down the street to Memorial Stadium together every morning?

May I ask what gives you this "feeling"? I personally have seen nothing that would indicate this at all !

They're supposed to be drinking coffee together every morning at the local diner.

What? This cannot be serious.

And really, its time for the program to let TO go. He's not the go to guy. He's not the one dictating the direction of our program. If he doesn't advocate for Coach Riley, then he's needs to look in the mirror and tell himself that his time is over. If he didn't want it to be, then he shouldn't have retired.

I agree 100% with this opinion. Nothing against TO, but people need to stop going to him for his approval on every decision that is made by the athletic department. I am sure TO would rather not answer all these questions. Let him relax in retirement, and do work with his Teammates program. Nothing can replace what TO did for the school and the state for the past 45 years, but it's time to stop asking "What would Tom Osborne do?" in every situation.

Didn't this come up with Bo Pelini, too?

Osborne may have endorsed him as HC, but the scuttlebutt was that Bo didn't like being in Tom's shadow, rarely sought him out and wasn't particularly open to his counsel — or anyone's counsel as it turned out.

We also forget that Tom isn't lobbying for more influence. He's always handled this the right way. Head coaches run their own ship. Tom's around if needed. Everything about Riley suggests he will pay Osborne his respects. They don't have to be pals.

That being said: Tom probably feels a bit of a personal sting for how the Bo Pelini era played out.

I think it's precisely for that reason that TO hasn't seen fit to become buddy buddy with Riley. I think he realizes or at least wants to move on and live out the rest of his life for himself.

Clearly they hate each other's guts.

I do not see why there is anyone feeling one way or the other here with regards to "If TO and Riley are best buds" or not?

Mutual respect is all there needs to be!

As for (TO) being ticked because of (BO's) dismissal, really? If he (TO) felt that way just prior to the announcement of (BO's) termination, he surely changed his mind after the Players meeting where (BO) showed his true colors. Seeing and hearing excerpts of that meeting (lack of maturity and poor decision making) I believe showed all of us the very nature of why we could never get over the hump.

I've heard nothing that indicates that Mike Riley and Tom Osborne have any hatred for each other... or much of a relationship at all, for that matter.
