Mike Riley defeating #1 USC

Could Bo Pelini have beat a #1 ranked team (such as Alabama) while being unranked as coach Riley did

The question was do you think that Bo could win a game against #1. Im just sayin yeah. He had an epic defense that only needed an O that could average 17 points a game and he would have been national champ. Remember that d was holding other teams to around 11 pts per game and also scoring 7 points or so themselves. But our offense was not good. The Callahan deal: just sayin sometimes everybody thinks one way and sometimes they iz all wrong. I didnt even think we could beat Michigan. Am I right or am I right.

One great thing I think we have with Riley is the games he has shown he can win.

Whats easier to do?

1.) Figuring out how to beat high ranked teams

2.) Figuring out how to beat the teams you should beat

Riley has shown he can beat ranked teams. Now with the resources he has he should be able to easily find a way to make sure we beat the teams we should also.

Bo couldnt beat ranked teams but did do fairly well, not great, in beating teams we should.

I'd say we have a big leg up by hiring Riley for this point alone. The learning curve to beat lesser teams is not near as steep.

What does "maybe" mean? One out of ten times? One out of a hundred? A thousand?

Yeah, *maybe* Pelini could beat a #1 team someday. Maybe.

I voted "maybe", because if by some impossible fluke Pelini got the Huskers ranked #1, I can pretty much guarantee the team would manage to beat itself.

You guys are smoking to much weed. When Bo looses to an oppenent he should beat you guys freak out. Now that he cleans that up and loses to quality opponents (yes, in some cases by an embarrassing margin) you freak out and focus all your attention there. We get it, you don't like Bo, and absence perfection or near perfection, he sucks and you will only focus on the negative things, informing almost anything that can be positive.

Now, you again put on your blinders and talk about Riley like he is a mastermind of coaching.

He freaking went 5-7, and his team isn't even eligible to go to a bowl game this year. Let's see how it works out before making such gradious productions. This is not meant to be a slight on Riley (I know you will disagree), but people need to be realistic and not create a delusional view of the world. Put things in context.

I hoped Bo did well when he was coach, and wish him the best now. I hope Riley does well and also wish him the best.

I firmly believe Bo could beat a #1 team. However, to do so, he needs to sit back and reevaluate schemes and how he coaches during games.

A little time off and reflection might be good for him in these categories.

What was Riley's record here at Nebraska? Give the guy a chance to give us something to compare more apples to apples. His records at OSU really play no consequence in how well he can do here. It's really that easy. Nobody can truly say Riley won't succeed here, b/c there is no body of work to judge yet.

Would you hire Saban here now? Sure you would. Would you have hired him from Sparty? It's all about track record and what have you done lately, but there are many coaches that didn't do crap until they got in the right situation. This could be Riley's right situation. We'll find out. I'm hoping for a Saban Sparty-LSU or Jimmy Johnson Okie Lite-Miami type of thing. Anything can happen.
