Reserve fullback Miller arrested on felony criminal mischief charge
Lincoln Journal Star
Nebraska reserve fullback Grant Miller was arrested this past weekend on a felony charge of criminal mischief after an alleged incident with an ex-girlfriend.
Lincoln police arrested Miller, 21, a junior from Peabody, Mass., on Saturday night at his ex-girlfriend’s apartment after he allegedly broke the door to get in and hit a trash bin in the parking lot with his car as he left.
Miller remains on the team, Husker head coach Bill Callahan said Tuesday.
“First off, it’s in the authorities’ hands right now,” the coach said. “Secondly, I feel strongly that we don’t condone any type of behavior of that nature. Third, the internal discipline has been spelled out for Grant, and I keep that private. But this has been addressed very strongly.”
Officer Katherine Finnell said at about 8:30 p.m. Saturday, police were called to the Tangelwood Apartments at 343 N. 44th St.
She said Miller went over to his ex-girlfriend’s apartment and wanted to talk, but she didn’t want to see him and didn’t answer the door or windows he was banging on.
“He eventually went to the patio door and forced entry into the apartment by forcing open the locked door,” Finnell said.
Miller was allegedly in the apartment for a short time and left.
Finnell said that’s when Miller got into his 1998 Nissan Altima, accelerating rapidly and squealing his tires through the parking lot, and drove into a garbage bin, pushing it into a garage. The felony charge resulted from damage to the trash bin and garage. He also was cited with misdemeanor vandalism for damage to the patio door.
Police estimated the damage to the trash bin at $500, $3,000 to the garage and $100 damage to the door frame.
In February of 2004, Miller was arrested for assault after an altercation at a Lincoln party.
