Missouri '08 Recruits

Heisman Trophy Winner
Missouri's biggest recruit, 5 star Sheldon Richardson, reportedly hasn't qualified. It sounds like he is going to go the juco route.

Edit: Ty Phillips, another Mizzou recruit, also hasn't qualified.

Too bad for these kids, but I have a hard time feeling sorry for Missouri. <_<

Add to that they lost out on Wingo to Arkansas and you start to wonder if this is a year that Pinkel will have to recover from instead of build on.

Losing both of the DTs Gary wanted in this class is not good, leaves a hole depth wise that he is going to have fix by JUCOs or over recruiting the position next year. Looks like some the DEs he brought in could bulk up to play DT, heck Crick did that, so we shall see what Gary can do with his D-Line in 2-3 years.

Yeah, it's not the end of the world, but losing your best (arguably) recruit before he is on campus is not a good thing.

No official word on Richardson

It’s been reported and discussed online that during last week’s Tiger Caravan stop in Mendon, Missouri Coach Gary Pinkel told the fans gathered there that star recruit Sheldon Richardson has failed to qualify academically and will enroll at a junior college. Now, while that scenario might still play out, I’ve checked with Pinkel and there is no definitive determination on Richardson’s situation. The official party line from Missouri’s camp is that Pinkel’s staff is hopeful Richardson will become eligible but will have alternative plans if he doesn't — i.e., a detour through junior college.

Bottom line, Missouri fans should hope for the best, prepare for the worst. I know that doesn’t answer the question on everyone’s mind — will Richardson be a Tiger in 2009? — but it should clear up any speculation that Pinkel has publicly stated Richardson will not be eligible. He hasn't declared that. In other words, stay tuned.

● In other Pinkel news, the coach has officially joined the Twitter express. You can find GP’s Tweets at http://twitter.com/mizzoufootball

Of course, you should also be following my Twitter site, too. Find it at http://twitter.com/dmatter if you haven’t already.

We’ve got a long way to catch up with Twitter veterans Bernie Miklasz (2,100 followers) or Derrick Goold (1,600) and even newcomer Chase Daniel (1,100), but we can make it there eventually.

Doesn't sound too good........for Mizzery.
