Mizzu - Nebraska Bell

I havent heard anything about this in a while, are our 2 schools still doing this.

If this is true then let me clear things up on rivalrys.

Nebraska - Missouri - Bell

Nebraska - Colorado - Bitter Rivalry

Nebraska - Oklahoma - Friendly Rivalry

Is this about right

Well, I know that no matter what, the BELL is stil intact.

Colorado-Nebraska........damn buffs.....

and as of Oklahoma......&%($$& (#(#& $*$ Sooners!

Sooners are Asshats. Not Friendly. You just lost the edge by taking 2 years off after 2 years on and them sucking towards the end of the Big 8.

vs Missouri - recent disappointment after years of whoopin'

vs Colorado - still baffled as to when and who labeled them our rivals?

vs Oklahoma - one, if not, the best rivalry in college football

Speaking from a younger generation. when i play NCAA football they have them listed as a rivalry. The game considers the sooners a rivalry as well but again i think it lost its potency after we only played them every few years.

Well if you want to consider Missouri and Colorado Rivals, they aren't any more rivals to us than anyone else in the B12 North. The only differences between those two and say ISU is that there is either a bell involved (that is never really even seen or mentioned) and the fact that one happens to be played thanksgiving weekend because of B12 garbage.

OU is our only traditional rival because it's the only series that is even close to being competitive. You can't have a rivalry when one team dominates the other team for most of the series, even if once in a while the dominated rise up and are better than the dominatior once a century or so.

To me Nebraska has no real rival. Our rival is simply whoever is at the top of the standings (or in 2nd place behind NU) in a given year. The only thing that changes is the name of the school that we are talking about, depending on the decade.

no theres still a bell, its just that it aint talked about or seen much, this has happened to alot of rivalries around the country, for instance in MLB Texas and Houston play for the "silver boot" whoever wins the season series between the two gets the silver boot trophy but I aint never seen it at all to this day and I even went to one of the games that wound up bein the season series clincher for the Rangers a few years ago but never saw it presented or nothin.

The Missouri-Nebraska bell exchange awarded to the winner of the Nebraska and Missouri football game annually. The exchange is organized by the Innocents Society of Nebraska and QEBH of Missouri.

[edit] History

The tradition dates back to 1892, when the bell was taken from a church in Seward, Nebraska by members of Nebraska fraternities Phi Delta Theta and Delta Tau Delta. At the time, the members of the two fraternities occupied the same house. When the two groups moved into separate houses, there was a dispute over who should keep the bell. Annual scholastic or athletic contests were held, with the bell being used as a trophy. This rivalry abated, yet still the ownership of the bell was left in question.

In 1926, the athletic director at Missouri, Chester D. Brewer, suggested an annual award be established for the annual Missouri-Nebraska football game. The bell was selected to be the prize to end the conflict between the fraternities, and an 'M' and an 'N' were engraved on opposite sides of the bell. The exchange was coordinated by the Innocents Society and Missouri’s prestigious Q.E.B.H. Society. Missouri won the first game in 1927 7-6, and the scores from the games are engraved on the bell stand until 1954. In 2005, the scores were updated to the current date.

The parentheses refers to the home team. Fixed it back. The score column has NU listed first and MU second.

I believe it is, just not on the day of the game. I think the universities do it later on. The bell currently sits in a trophy case in Columbia.

if i remember correctly it is presented by the alumni clubs or something like that. I know its still passed they just might not make it public.

Few people had seen the MU/KU war drum until M. Rucker starting carring it around the field two years ago.
