Inverness, FL -- Deputies arrested an Inglis man Wednesday on charges he was "cooking meth" inside a car they caught speeding at 71 mph down the street in Homosassa.
According to the arrest affidavit, when deputies stopped Jerry McKay, 23, they looked inside the passenger side window and saw a jug and a garbage bag with a twisted top. They also smelled a strong odor of ammonia emanating from the car. The also say the driver had a syringe in his pants pocket.
When a deputy asked what was in the bag, they said McKay said "nothing." And when asked if he could open the bag and breathe whatever was inside, McKay responded: "I would not do that."
McKay was taken to the Citrus County jail on charges of possessing, making and delivering methamphetamine, unlawful possession of illegal chemicals and having drug paraphernalia. He was being held on $25,500 bail.
He was also charged with driving with a suspended license -- and speeding.
