Modern Spread Option + Classic Option = Money?

All I hear is everyone wanting a modern spread offense and that the old option cant work anymore. My question is.....why not combine them both. Some of the time you spread out the field and other times you stack in a power formation such as the Maryland-I. I just cant understand why people think defenses are too fast when we saw today that the option basically negates any speed the defense has, by having several "options" which creates uncertainty for the defense.

I would be in favor of some sort of Spread Option with a QB who could actually hit the broad side of a building instead what we had back then. Aka Jammal Lord. Grant it, Lord was a tough SOB who ran hard but his passing was horrendious and teams knew this. Take away the pitch, force Lord to throw, ball game is won!

McGee ran the spread in HS. ABC did a story from Burnet HS when he and Shipley at Texas were there. He was not an option QB, but Fran has turned him into one. That is why he takes the hits instead of delivering the blows.

Did you even read my post? I didnt way we should go back to running ONLY the classic option but combine them both.

Did you even read my post? I didnt way we should go back to running ONLY the classic option but combine them both.

I was rationlizing as to why it wouldn't have worked here. We didn't have a QB who could actually throw the ball before Frank was canned. Oh and the fact that the "old"option is just that...Old However....I am for whatever works as far as actually getting the Offense points on the board!

I think zac lee would fit that mold well. good sized kid (6'2" over 200 with a 4.6 speed) and he can certainly throw the ball. he is the main reason I feel like we should be competitive right away if we get the right guy to coach. he is diverse enough to handle any type of offense

Still Florida doesnt line up in power formations and run the triple option of old. Im saying we should run both the modern spread option as well as the old triple option out of power formation.

Still Florida doesnt line up in power formations and run the triple option of old. Im saying we should run both the modern spread option as well as the old triple option out of power formation.

But they will run plays with a QB, RB, and a 3rd back in motion to get a triple option look.

The option still works, don't you believe it won't. The key is the offensive line. Solich started letting that slide and now it's out of control. Our pipeline boys of 1995 could put on a clinic.
