Most likely redshirt burned in 2016?

In Riley's pre-Fall Camp presser he mentioned the fact that he was not commenting on the possiblility of freshmen playing, in order to not put too much pressure on them. (unless I am mistaken) What do you guys think about the likelihood of a redshirt getting burned this year, and which one do you think is the most likely?

I was going to make a poll, but I didn't want to limit the options too much. Here is a partial list of some of the more likely freshmen:

I don't think it will be a RB. we have good depth this year, not just bench players. Ziggy, wilbon, newby could all make an argument for starting. I think Lamar plays from game 1

If a few others below play solid over the next three weeks they might not as well:

• Pernell Jefferson
• Matt Farniok
• Caleb Lightbourn
• Grim/Spielman are around the 5th or 6th best options. One of them could possibly not redshirt

Tre Bryant at this point would probably be 5th on the depth chart. I wouldn't waste a year for that

Are you saying to have Bush change positions permanently?

I think there is a difference than creating a package of plays for Newcombe in a simpler offense (at least for a Wingback) in 1997, compared to moving Bush to WR for this season when there is already plenty of depth at that position.

Lamar, JoJo, Simmons, Spielman, Grim, Lightbourn. Maybe Quayshon.

The hype on Lamar is too high to not foresee playing time. Reading about JoJo, he sounds like one of those instinctive defenders that may not make every tackle, but has a nose for the ball and will always be around the pile - breaks through on special teams and earns PT. Simmons sounds like a freak athlete too, works his way through ST. Spielman and Grim could see opportunities in the return game and jet sweep. Fortunately we got Lightbourn last class and unfortunately we'll probably need him this season. Won't close the door on Quayshon, or even Miller, given the open competition at DE opposite of Freedom.

The few guys I see who could get PT but I don't think will are POB, Farniok or Raridon. Pretty tough positions for true freshman to transition into and succeed early.

Permanently or a special package of plays that allows him to continue as our 3rd string QB. I don't think receiver would be a position for him now, because, as you said, we are deep at receiver. There has to be some position he could play. Rush end?

He also has the mentality that he will be the man next year - if he doesn't have that mentality then he isn't a D1 QB. If he gets beat out next year by Lee or POB then I think would consider a position change. However, until that happens his mindset is taking the rains in '17. (I'm not saying he will - just what his mindset has to be).

Bush is currently the 3rd string QB as a RS sophomore, behind two 5th year seniors. He knows he will have competition for the #1 QB job with POB and Gebbia next year, but he deserves a chance to let that competition play out before being told to move positions. Also, if POB beats him out in 2017 for the #1 job, there is nothing wrong with having a junior backup. That would also allow Gebbia to redshirt in 2017 and put on some strength and weight. Gebbia is a string bean right now.

I just don't get the thought of automatically giving the starting job to a freshman, just so he can have the most years to start down the road. I remember plenty of QB's being starters for 1-2 seasons and playing plenty good enough.

You are correct. My bad. My point is that let's just things play out for 2016 and then the 2017 QB competition before we tell the coaches they should be moving Bush to another position.
