Mount Pelini

Regardless of how Bo meant it, Jack Arute said basically that very thing on Sirius radio today. Unfortunatly I was only able to listen for a few minutes but from the little that i did catch... Arute, an ABC sideline reporter for years, said something to the effect that it's pretty common for coaches/asst coaches to yell at players like that. that the only real difference here was that Pelini/TMart was caught with a "wide angle lens".

Did I miss something while I was at work? What did Taylor do to piss him off?
at the moment, that question may rank up there with "what is the meaning of life?"
Zoogies made it sound like Taylor had it coming, so I guess I was just confused as to whether new info had been brought forth as to why, or if Zoogies just hates Tmart's attitude or something. I was just curious.

Okay. Enough is enough.

I have not thought Bo yelling around was a big deal ever. Then as this season has roles along, i started to get a little annoyed; such as: don't yell at EVERYTHING, just yell when it's appropriate. Then the ATM game, I thought it was overboard yet warranted (16-2!??!)...

Now that all my loser team friends from CU, KU, and gaystate have been chiming in the past couple days....well, hell... I hope Bo goes apesh#t every game. I mean, teams we stomped for 50 years have fans basically saying they would rather lose than have a passionate fired up coach. Well, then keep the glen mason's and Hawkins of your loser schools.

Screw this crap. I say Bo can run his program how ever he wants. He'll get better at the things he needs to get better at. I'm not "win at all costs" by any means, but just cuz there are 20 cameras pointed at him, doesn't mean he can't be who he is. I'm over it. Screw the perception of the hothead, especially from outsider fans whose schools are loser teams, we know Bo loves his players and this school.

Um, getting your a$$ ripped is part of football. I remember back in highschool getting my a$$ chewed out a time or two at practice and even during a game. Usually my coach would come up to me afterward and say something along the lines of "You're improved tremendously. Sorry I came down on you so hard"...etc. Sometimes getting your a$$ chewed is the best way to fix a problem. However this will only work if there is a mutual respect.

I respected my coach. I hope that Martinez does the same.

KIDS GET YELLED AT ON THE SIDELINES ALL THE TIME.

Everybody just thinks it's way worse when Bo does it because:

1) Bo is notoriously a hot-head (partially earned, partially exaggerated by the public, most of which secretly wish that he was coaching their team's defense), and

2) Nub is teh evil and we torture puppies and everything is way worse when we do it.

I've never played for a coach that singled me out and yelled at me.

I don't know if I'm more afraid I'd start crying or if I would drop the coach where he stood.

I thought about going out for the team in college at ASU, but only after Frank Kush retired. (He yelled more than my own dad).

This whole thing is a perception issue. Nobody knows what Bo was yelling about or saying, whether it was the officials or the players. The only reason it's a big deal was because it looked bad, and that's only because it was on television.

It seems like Taylor effed up somehow and Bo was unhappy. He over reacted in his response to Taylor. I think he knows exressing his displeasure with Taylor's actions in such a harsh fasion in public was not his best option on how to handle the situation. He was counciled on the repucussions of such behavior and hopefully understands that the world is not fair and you have to focus on the team and not berate officials. I fully understand that there was something nefarious with the officiating. That is my honest belief. Let the officials know what you think. Don't just wail on them incessantly. At least get a couple players to block the cameras while you wail. I understand the frustration, but I prefer a focus on the team. Figure out a way to deal with it. Focus the team. :boxosoap

To me, it's a chicken or the egg theory. Which came first, the refs started punishing the team for Pelini going ape poo on them, or did Pelini start going ape poo on them because they were punishing his team?

That's what bothers me most about this. Everyone who isn't a Husker fan who watched, thinks it was a complete over reaction to a single game. While Pelini was reacting to an entire season of bad calls and a suspicious lack of calls against the other team..

F it. I'm not one of the guys who cares what the country thinks about us. This who;e referring to ourselves and our program as "classy" is so self stimulating and lame.

Bo acted the way many of us wanted him to act and I don't think he should be apologizing to Taylor, the league, officials or us "fans" who seem embarrassed that our good names got soiled.

All I'm saying is there is a time and a place for everything. I remember my old man glaring at me, teeth clenched, eyes sort of going manson. I knew I was toast. I effed up, knew I effed up, and knew I was gonna an well deserved a$$chewing. I am not against attitude adjustments. I just think there are more productive ways of getting the most out of an a$$chewing. Let the offender think about their actions. I just prefer a Tony Dungy type to a Bobby Knight type. Tom Osborne over Woody Hayes. All of these men did their share of a$$chewing, it's just that you knew if Coach Osborne was in your a$$, you really effed up. I don't think he made a scene of enforcing discipline on the sidelines. I'm pretty sure most, not all, of their uuhh..conferences were in the locker room. I don't thinks it a big deal. Sometimmes you gotta go over a certain line to know where it is. I see nothing wrong with Perlman having a little pow wow with Bo to illustrate the possible negative effects of certain negative perceptions.

What's unfortunate is most of the penalties were of a judgement nature. There were obvious biases in the enforcement of the rules. The gray area for NU is very dark. We can't give a referee an opportunity to even try and consider judgement because we will not get the benefit of any doubt, let alone some blatant phantom calls. This was to be expected ever since we joined the Big 10. It's happened before to teams leaving one conference for another. Decks already stacked, we know this, we can't can't control the enforcement of judgement calls. There is also a bias in the number of penalties against our opponents. Most teams have committed fewer penalties against NU than their season average. Officials are human, we don't need to make easier for them to rationalize their judgements. By constantly berating them, it makes it easier to call personal fouls, roughing the passer, unsportsman like conduct and the other myriad penalties that we have managed to discover. We stopped Gabberts forward progress in record time. Look at that way.

Life is what you make of it, not what it makes of you.

The kid is 19 years old playing football. Trust me there are a lot of 19 year olds getting their asses screamed at while ducking live rounds. I have no pity for him in any way.

He is playing a game, and screwed up. He got his a$$ chewed so what.

But the problem is when and where it happened.

The spectacle is all over the news. Not positive news. This will not go away and it will always follow Coach Pelini, that is sad, they will follow everything he does from now on. Looking for anything similar and we will see it every time.

Hopefully the meeting with Coach Osborne and Chancellor Perlman will get accrossed to him how important his actions are for the program the Univeristy and the people of Nebraska.

Bo is a smart man, but I do believe he needs some counciling on his anger management. He has to understand with internet and TV he is the big fish in the fish bowl. I think he will. I truly hope he does.
