Mountain West's TV channel, The Mtn, shutting down at end of May

All-American
UNL alumnus and Husker fan, Bill Doleman is a network anchor at The Mtn. Hope he lands on his feet somewhere worthwhile. He's a good dude. Wouldn't mind seeing him at BTN.

The cable channel created for the Mountain West Conference—The Mtn—is shutting down and will go dark May 31, sources said. The channel's 44 employees were informed of the decision late this afternoon during a meeting at the company’s Denver headquarters.
Sources indicate that CBS Sports Network and the Mountain West Conference are close to finalizing a deal for the conference's rights that will wind up increasing national distribution for the Mountain West's upcoming football and basketball games. CBS Sports Network is in around 45 million homes. Jointly owned by CBS Sports Network and NBC Universal, the Mtn is in around 13 million homes.

Hmm, well I get CBS Sports and do not get The Mtn...so I guess more football is a good thing.

Well, this certainly doesn't bode well for the Longwhorn Network--they have far fewer homes and still aren't on in Austin. There's no reasonable way anyone can claim Disney is making money from this, unless some very shady accounting is going on. Then again, if you're after shady dealings, then Texass is the right school for Disney to hop in bed with.

Wonder if nothing changes in terms of households or coverage after this season, if Disney just pulls the rug out from ESPN on this moneysink of a channel as well.

On a side note... I thought Kugs did well on BTN last night. Hopefully, he can hook on with them in some capacity. Tough break for him.

I was going to say, Kugler did some of the non-con football games last season on the BTN, and he's got some sort of outstanding contract that allows the BTN to use him as a commentator when necessary (easier than flying one of the folks out of Chicago when you have someone local and that knows the team already).

Absolutely. Would still be nice to see him get a permanent gig (or Doleman, who I also like) but maybe for Kugs, that's not in the cards.
