Both have Oklahoma and USC in their top 5 :bang This is sending the message that ACTUAL, ON-THE-FIELD RESULTS don't matter. And if that's the case, why play the games? Why not just have talent scouts watch practices in August and name the top 25 most talented teams. Give the most talented team (Florida, Oklahoma, Texas or USC) the title trophy and forget the games. Afterall, if a better team loses to a lesser team (USC-Wash, OU-BYU) they had some good excuse (injuries, weather, luck) for why it happened. And therefore, who cares about results. USC beats Washington 9 out of 10 times, so forget the fact that they didn't when it mattered.

It's infuriating that the most influential media members in the sport often have a complete lack of ability to think analytically.

Did I mention Penn St. is ranked above Iowa in the Coaches poll? I understand these guys are paid to coach football, but then why are they a major component deciding who plays for the national title? It's beyond absurd.

Yeah I absolutely do not understand how you can possibly rank Penn State ahead of Iowa, or Oklahoma State ahead of Houston, or USC ahead of Washington (before Washington's embarrassing performance against Stanford that is). It sends the message that hype is more important than results.
