My comfort as ZT Passes.....

earlier in the season, whenever ZT would be back to pass, with pretty good protection.......and he let that ball fly, i was very confident it would be completed........He didn't make stupid decisions with it, and was accurate as hell............

NOW, after watching the OU game......i am no longer 100% positive that when ZT throws a ball farther than 10 yards it will be complete...............going back a little into the A&M game, and into the OU game, there have been a lot of passes i was very confident were TD's, only to be terribly wrong.....

This is going to make me MUCH more nervous come January, especially since we are playing a quick Auburn secondary.........

just my 2 cents

The cold makes the ball heavier... AND slick. I don't think he was used to that.

Plus, OU did a great job disguising coverages, and made good plays...

it also goes back to teh A&M game and Colorado some...

maybe im totally wrong, and am seeing things that dont happen.........but i just dont feel like hes been the same for a while

I think part of it is that he got hit pretty hard a few times in those games. Hell, he gets hit hard a lot. Taking those shots time after time could possibly affect the way he throws. I mean, if he lands hard on his throwing arm and it gets jammed up a little bit it will probably affect his arm strength. I'm not a Quarterback, nor did I ever play one (well except in sandlot games when I was too tired to run around) but thats just my assumption. This long break I think will allow his arm to rest and I think he should be fine for the bowl game. I could be totally wrong on this, though.

Also, with him completing some of those passes in the earlier games, his confidence grew and might have become almost "godly" like. He has in his mind that he can connect on any pass. Now when he goes to watch film over the next several weeks, he can look at what he can and cannot do.

when you throw the ball without trying to hard it is usually more accurate. but when you press and try to make things happen that is when mistakes are more likely. i saw ZT pressing alot against OU trying to do it all himself in one pass, instead of short high percentage passes

:yeah

Zac was trying to hard to make the big play instead of managing the game with the short passes. He was trying to get TD's instead of moving the chains. I would have rather him thrown some crossing routes, more screens, some quick outs; anything but the deep ball.

Your not wrong. Zach has been holding the ball longer and get rattled pretty easily in the pocket....probally from some big hits he has taken. I have a heart attach these days when he drops back to pass as it seems as though he holds it forever. Not sure if he cannot see the open man or opposing secondarys are that good.

He does take his time going thru his reads. I've noticed that this year as well and it was something the announcers mentioned during the game.

We got in a big hole real quick against OU. The team and coaches may have been feeling pressured to make something happen. Going down 14 out of the block is pretty startling to say the least. I'm not sure how indicative the OU game was. We'll see how they do in January.

He's a decent QB that had a horrific game. I still have confidence that he can get it done. It's gut check time for Taylor.

That would have involved different play calling. Hence Coach Callahan getting down on himself.

Well, OU's two TD robbing interceptions were the result of spectacular defensive speed. Both were all but certain TDs and both were picked off at the last second by a DB making an outstanding play. Hopefully, that will give ZT some guide stone on judging openness. Maybe he can release the ball earlier, or put more zip on it. If he has been judging DB reaction time by using the NU DBs as examples, I can understand why he underestimated the speed, and the hence the timing of those passes.

I think he'll learn from his mistakes. Plus, we'll see if AU is as fast but I kind of doubt it.

Compare this to when Jammal Lord would plant his clown shoes - eyes closed looking up at the sky - body cocked back like the hammer of a revolver and then just launch one like 50 feet into the air for anyone to catch.

THAT....was discomfort.
