My postives i took from today

Positives?

We were outyarded - and won.

We went -1 in turnovers - and won

We scored less offensive points than Ball st. - and won.

We gave up 4 scoring drives of 80+ yards - and won.

A W is a W is a W... is a W.

But, ugh...

If we had a halfway competent defense - and I do think we do, they're just not playing up to potential - we would be tearing it up. I mean, how different a game would USC be if we didn't miss, oh, a gazillion tackles all over the place? This season will be about how our defense responds. I think the offense has got it down, but team unity and more fire from the D would not only be nice, but imperative just to pull out this season.

motor, good points. We've found ways to win in the toughest of situations. If we don't let other teams score things out of hand, we've got a lot of potential because of our offense.

By the way, I really don't think Sean Hill is all that great. I think TE is still a weak spot here in the offense, and FB currently as well. He caught a wide open pass today and ran it the rest of the way in, because Ball St. got greedy in their defensive scheme and blitzed too many, or something of that nature. Last week against USC, I saw him drop some passes he should have caught, passes that a truly athletic tight end probably should have.

I don't mean he's bad, but I really don't think we should expect too much out of him. We'll plug guys in and out at TE all year, and I don't think we'll have a reliable downfield threat there. I could be wrong.

This reminds me of when you see a couple... one is really attractive and the other is really ugly, dull, and unattractive. You look and you say, "What in the hell are they doing together?"

1. Keller...wow, he's becoming more poised week by week

2. Octavian...the only bright spot on this defense...one other thing i was impressed with (1 play but grix finally showed his vertical leap)

3. Sean Hill... finally a tight end that can stretch the field! well, a little more then we've had since herian went down, could be a real threat in the future

4. potential in Helu and Dillard i was impressed!
I am never one to call out players so I will voice this opinion in the most positive way I can: I think Dillard should be in on every play. Read that however you want. I will only say that I blame Coz (D-coordinator AND linebackers coach) for the decision not to include him more.

now after that, i'm on the fire cosgrove wagon...just not right now at this point in the season...like someone else said who we going to replace him with? At the end of the season i think he's gone, or atleast hope, but it might be wishful thinking. The D almost lost the game for us. The offense is looking strong, and i'm hoping they continue to improve so they can atleast keep us in some games in conference play, because i know for a dagnabit fact the d won't unless they get a fire under their a$$ and improve DRASTICLY
Bingo! Great assessment. 100% agreement here.

Good post. Rename thread to positives from yesterday. The ability to pull out the win was very positive. Keller and Purify are just about playing as good as a QB-WR combo can IMO. I liked the fire that Dillard showed late in the game. It was like he was saying, "c'mon guys, just because they blew us open on 2 plays earlier, doesn't mean we are going to give up the TD."
