After watching OK ST beat Mizzu last night it is clear that to beat a Mizzu or TT you cant do it rushing 3 guys. OK ST really handled Mizzu with 8 man fronts and LB's and saftey disguised coverages. Danials had his rythim taken out right from under him. In my view this game will be re watched for the prottotype of how to defeat the spread. Add the time of possession element of OK ST and Ne today using the run, put those together and your keys to victory versus the spread are clear.
We looked much better today at TT, guess what no 3 man fronts. 5-2 4 was far more effective.
many of the spreads advantages are neutralized by the extra congestion within 5 to 7 yds of LOS. Playing off with more DBs in zone, you just get picked apart. 3 man fronts concede the LOS and should never be used against the spread offences.
When everyone fgured out 8 men in the box could beat the option, it forced changes. Same will be true with the spread. Breakdown the film of both games today, and a prototype D against the spread should begin to emerge.
OK St and NU both used good balance today.
While disapointed by our loss, the team played much better, within a better scheme.
missed several opportunities to strip the ball for turnovers today, its always one element or another...perhaps we'll get complete game sometime this year.
