Anyone going to be in the Phoenix area tomorrow?

I heard about this on the Radio this morning.

Funny..It's the same day as Salt River Tubing and Recreation is planning a "Mardi Gras Float" down the river.

Do I even need to bring beads?

SATURDAY AUGUST 23RD 2008

STARTS AT NOON IN EVERY CITY

(Cities with events are listed below this welcome message)

Welcome to Gotopless.org! - We are a US organization, claiming that women have the same constitutional right to be bare chested in public places as men.

Rael, spiritual leader and founder of gotopless.org states: "as long as men can be topless, constitutionally women should have the same right, or men should also be forced to wear something hiding their chest."

Why a National GoTopless Protest day? Gotopless.org claims constitutional equality between men and women on being topless in public. Currently, women who dare to be topless in public in the US are repeatedly being arrested, fined, humiliated, criminalized. On Aug 23rd, 2008, topless women will rally in great numbers across the USA to protest this gross inequality in the law and will demand that they be granted the fundamental right to be topless where men already enjoy that right according to the 14th amendment of the Constitution (please see our exact legal argument on the right to be topfree for women under "14th amendment" in the column on the right.)

Why this protest in August? In 1970, Congress designated August 26 as Women's Equality Day "as a reminder of women's continuing efforts for equality". It is indeed on August 26, 1920, after a 72-year struggle, that the 19th Amendment to the Constitution of the U.S. was finally ratified, granting women the right to vote nationwide.

What will happen that day? Across America, topless women and men will peacefully rally in the streets, parks, on the beaches of their towns and cities. Activities will start at NOON local time in each city

Topfree performances will be given by various artists to honor Women's Equalitly Day and to convey how natural it is to be topfree for women in public just like it is for men. Please write to us if you are an artist who would like to participate in one of our shows.

VANCOUVER - Naked cyclists converged on Vancouver's main police station Saturday after a man was arrested with his three-year-old son during a nude ride earlier in the day.

Naked Bike Ride spokesman Conrad Schmidt said six squad cars and a paddy wagon showed up as the group of about 75 naked cyclists arrived along the city's English Bay.

They were taking part in a naked bike ride event, which happens several times a year. It attracts a range of people, some who want to promote bike riding and others who enjoy cycling in nude

Schmidt said the boy was in tears as police took him and his father away.

He said the arrest prompted the group to cycle through downtown Vancouver to the police station.

Vancouver Police Const. Jana McGuinness said several people had called police, concerned about the child's well-being. Police arrived and reached an agreement with the man that both he and his child would wear underwear during the ride.

As he left to join the group on the ride, the man stripped his and his son's clothes off. The father was then arrested at the scene of the bike ride under public nudity laws.

However, McGuinness said it appeared the man regretted his actions.

"When they were leaving (the scene) it was under the understanding that perhaps he hadn't shown the best judgement, there were a number of people that took offence to the child being naked in the group and subjected to people's scrutiny," she said. "It sounds like it's been a good lesson all around."

Not all the cyclists who made the trip through Vancouver's tourist-crowded downtown core supported the protest.

One cyclist who declined to give her name said the man took off the boy's pants

She said most of the cyclists did not agree with the situation and would not be protesting.

"The leaders of this event do not support what the guy did," she said.

"I think that's wrong. The kid's a minor."

The ride went down the city's crowded Robson Street, stopping both vehicle and pedestrian traffic and drawing hoots and horns.
