NCAA Football 2006

Once you're on campus, NCAA 2006's race for the Heisman mode will introduce you to what nearly every college freshman becomes extremely familiar with: the dorm room. Just like most frosh dorms, this one will be probably a bit too small and a bit too messy. All the amenities will be there, however, so you'll have a computer for checking your team and individual statistics, a magazine stack (just in case your face shows up in the weekly sports rags), a calendar and game schedule so you can keep track of important dates, launch practice sessions and upcoming games, and a trophy case where you can bask in the metallic glory of your achievements. There will even be perks such as fan letters, written by the slightly crazed but usually well-meaning college football freaks who follow your career, and a picture of your girlfriend. Tom Vuong: For NCAA Football 06, we really focused on the most popular aspect of Dynasty Mode, which is recruiting. Now, in addition to the current off-season recruiting, users will be able to recruit high school prospects during the regular football season as well. We really wanted to introduce the concept of targeting prospects in the summer, inviting them to campus for official visits in the fall, and then getting verbal commitments based on how well their visits went.

We now also have soft verbals, which are prospects who have committed to your school, but are still looking at other schools. So as a coach, you will have to continue to pursue these guys until you're sure they are committed to your program. So the in-season recruiting experience, although familiar, is a totally new game-within-a-game for our dedicated fans. All of this is packaged neatly in our Rivals.com Recruiting feature, which will bring you news and prospect interest movements in the form of headlines of the popular online recruiting service.

For off-season recruiting, we've totally revamped the user experience as well. We've added your school's academic reputation as a factor in dynasty and during recruiting. Now prospects will look at your school based on your academic prestige in terms of program and in terms of graduating players. The flipside of that is that recruiting players on talent alone may affect your school's academic prestige.

Another great addition is the ability to build pipelines when recruiting. Now having success in a particular area will lead to better success recruiting that area in the future. With these elements, coupled with players that do not qualify based on grades, users will have to totally change up their strategy when recruitingeasportseasports

The new recruiting aspects of Dynasty Mode are among the highlighted new features that will make for a better playing experience with NCAA Football 2006.

The biggest change to recruiting in the latest version of the game will be the addition of in-season recruiting. Users will now recruit high school prospects during the season, which will include official visits on the weekends of home games or bye weeks.

The new Rivals.com Recruiting Board will allow users to monitor their top targets.

Users will begin to target players during the summer and then develop a recruiting strategy, determining the number of points they'd be willing to devote to each prospect. Bonus points will be awarded for having official visitors in for big home victories, with added points being awarded for a win against a major rival, helping users in their efforts to secure commitments from the top prospects.

Each prospect will start with interest in eight schools before limiting his list to five schools and then ultimately three. Prospects also can make "soft verbals" to schools, but then they still have the option to change their mind should they not continue to be actively recruited by that school.

As prospects begin limiting their choices, headlines reflecting those decisions will be generated, just as can be seen daily on Rivals.com throughout the year

Added Eddie Dorsey, NCAA Football 06 assistant producer, "It's very Rivalsesque. It allows those types of users who want to get in depth with it to do that. It's what you make of it."

Changes also have been made to offseason recruiting, where a school's academic reputation will play a factor in recruiting. Certain prospects will place a higher value on academics, making it difficult for some institutions to make the cut for those players' services.

Schools also run the risk of seeing their academic reputation slip if they only recruit the most talented players available, and there will be prospects who ultimately won't qualify academically. These are added features that make recruiting strategy a bigger part of the game.

Additionally, the ability to create recruiting pipelines has been established, enabling a school to increase its likelihood of recruiting success in areas where it has fared well in the past.

The new recruiting pipeline feature will allow users to target areas in which they've enjoyed past recruiting success.

"We wanted to make it as in depth as possible for the guys like Eddie and I who read Rivals.com every day," Vuong said.

The process isn't the only aspect of recruiting that has changed for NCAA Football 06. In past years, there were tremendous numbers of highly rated prospects available to be recruited, but that too will be changing.

"We tried to base it on the Rivals100 (the organization's ranking of the nation's top 100 players) and limit the number of five-star and four-star players, like you would see on Rivals.com," Dorsey said. "We want it to feel like if you get a five-star player, it's really special."

 
I think last year was in late July. The early they can get it out more copis will be sold. People are so football deprived, they need anything.

Wow, I just got back from the EA Sports web page, checked the discussion board, and talk about dorks. Someone asked when the release date is in a discussion forum and was just attacked for not knowing it comes out July 12. I wasn't sure so I checked again and thought it was a bit funny. I guess it would kind of be like one of those computer dorks coming here and seeing the passion we have for the Huskers, huh? Sorry if I offended any computer dorks.
