Near as I can tell, this was not written in jest

One of the local (Phoenix) Husker Bars advertised flying in a buttload of Runzas in for one of the games or maybe for a Husker highlight movie ...Never understood why so many re-located Huskers like Runzas..I remember them being much better than the name made me think they would be, but I doubt I'll ever eat another one.

I do wish we could get a Runza Drive inn out here just for the Swiss Cheese Mushroom Burgers..

God I miss ripping on the Daily Nebraskan every single day. College "writers" truly are some of the worst people.

I tried reading the article but gave up after she took forever and a day to make her point clear so just from Knapp's title I'm assuming she wants to make a class/program for out of staters? A Nebraska 101? That's a ridiculous idea and it's damaging to the experience.

In today's world it's not uncommon to have to move between states and regions frequently. Just thinking about it, my great grandparents had very little reason to ever leave their county and my Grandparents were more or less anchored to Wisconsin but my parents moved us between states three times and in my adulthood I've lived in six different states across three regions. Americans are becoming more and more mobile.

When you get into the real world and pick up and start over in a new place no one holds your hand or walks you through everything. You have to learn, adapt and eventually assimilate on your own, a skill you'd might as well develop early. Nothing is gained by babying college students.

As far as her opening about Suh, I agree with her but she's dumb for writing that considering her audience. Every state has produced pariahs who are still adored locally...my Grandfather still thinks highly of McCarthy...sometimes it's just better to let people have their opinion and leave it alone.

college students in general are pretty arrogant. think they know everything and never have been challenged. i was a philosophy minor and those kids were the worst.

I don't make a practice of reading the UNL Daily Nebraskan's Opinion page, but this was linked in something else I was reading and I checked it out. It did not disappoint.

SIMON: UNL should have programs to make out-of-state students' transitions easier
Let’s get something straight: Nobody outside of the state of Nebraska likes Ndamukong Suh. That crowd on TV’s not “Suh-ing”; it’s booing.

And that drink you mix with ice cream to make floats? Root beer, not rut.

I think it’s easy for people in the Midwest to just assume their perspectives are “the norm” and shouldn’t be questioned. Moving from Illinois to Nebraska wasn’t supposed to be a culture shock — we’re in the same time zone, for crying out loud. But even an eight-hour move can feel like light years when you can’t understand the people living around you.

When I picked my initial major, animal science, I thought it was just a weird name for zoology. So my introductory classmates were utterly confused as to why I was horrified at the idea of a field trip to a feed-lot (this was a legitimate suggestion that a majority agreed upon for a “bonding” experience). I didn’t even know there were different cows for milking and meat.
Sorry who ever you are Simon but Golic and Schlareth both think Damo got a bad rap.

Is it sad that I read the Dailyer more than the DN?
No. The Dailyer actually had to be a thought out idea on how to be sarcastic about a news story. That alone is more work than what goes into a DN article altogether.
