The United States didn't win a team medal or put a single player on the all-tournament team last week at the Under-21 World Championships. That's bad.
This being a patriotic website, however, we've got good news. Several international players enrolled at U.S. colleges played well.
Aleks Maric, Nebraska: The 6-11, 265-pound Australian might have been the most productive big man in the field, averaging 10.6 points and 9.4 rebounds. He was second in the tournament in rebounds and put up three huge games -- 21 points and eight rebounds vs. Slovenia, 16 and 12 vs. Israel, and 16 and 9 vs. Canada. (Australia never played the U.S.) Maric and sophomore classmate Joe McCray are two reasons not to sleep on Nebraska this season. They combined to average 23.5 points and 11.3 rebounds last season.
