As you may or may not have heard, the Dome in New Orleans will be torn down (no plans to rebuild just yet). The Dome was home to several major events, such as the Nokia Sugar Bowl, the Super Bowl (9 times), and home to the New Orleans saints. Nebraska played 4 times in the sugar bowl. In 1967, Devaney lead his squad into the Sugar bowl and lost 34-7. Tom Osborne would later return in 1974 with his squad to take on the gators and beat them 13-10. In 1985, Tom returned to New Orleans, but this time faced an even stronger opponent in LSU the SEC champ that year. Tom beat LSU 28-10. Nebraska would return for one last trip to the Dome in 1987 to beat LSU 30-15.
In 1989, the Sugar bowl signed a contract with both the SEC and ACC for exclusive right by both conferences until a new BCS system was put in place. When the Sugar bowl is not hosting the National title game, it serves as the main bowl game for an SEC and ACC opponent.
The Sugar will be permanently relocated to another city. Some would say the Sugar Bowl should stay in the South because that's where it belongs. Others are looking ahead to the future. Some possible destination sites have been thrown out there to the BCS commission. Those include Jacksonville, Orlando, Atlanta, Houston, San Antonio, Los Angeles (the coliseum). Anyone on this board ever attend a game at the Sugar Bowl, be it a husker game or not? Where would you think a best fit would be for the Sugar Bowl?
