Nebraska in the eyes of another

For us to tack on 4 losses this year I think we would have to go out of our way to do so, like 2010...
Really? I think it's easy to see road losses to Wisconsin and Michigan State. You can throw in a few toss-up games like Miami, Iowa, and Northwestern (who plays us close every year). Drop one or two of those and we're at 4 losses. Let's say we lose one of those three, finish at 9-3 and play a tough SEC team in a bowl game, say LSU or S. Carolina. Boom, 4 losses again.
Do I think this will happen? I dunno, but we certainly don't have to go out of our way to find 4 losses with our schedule.
And at that point it would be safe to assume we've seen a ceiling.
This is incorrect.

I don't understand the people who say they can see us going 10-3 or 11-2 this season. What have Bo Pelini and the coaching staff done the past several seasons to make you believe we will win 10 or 11 games? We lost our leaders in the secondary. Most of our offensive line is gone. Tommy Armstrong didn't even get a full season under his belt. It sounds a lot to me like blind faith. Recent history has shown us otherwise.

Ill admit, last year I was convinced that 4 losses was impossible. But the injury bug bit an Bo lost his sh#t a couple tjmes and TaDaa, 4 losses. I just dont see any way we have that same problem again this year. And lets face it, even three less turnovers on the year would be a massive improvement and probaby an extra win.
Oh god, don't jinx it. My fear is that we won't have the exact same problems as last year, there will be some new ones. And some fans will be quick to excuse said problems as another anomaly...2009: wellllll, the games were close and we had no offense. So 4 losses is okay.2010: wellllll, the refs and Beebe were out to get us because of leaving the conference. So 4 losses is okay.2011: wellllll, we are in a new conference and have to prepare for a bunch of unfamiliar opponents. So 4 losses is okay.2012: wellllll, we got blown out a few times, but the defense was slow and we had all those comebacks. The defense will be younger and faster next year. So 4 losses is okay.2013: wellllll, the defense was young so what do you expect, plus we had a lot of injuries. So 4 losses is okay.2014: ?????That's not to say these excuses were bunk, most of them were legitimate hurdles that were tough to overcome. But at some point, we gotta bust through these challenges, no matter what they are, and get over the hump. Even if the excuses are legitimate, is still leads to diminished enthusiasm.
Amen! Preach on.......

I dont understand why optimism has to meet such harsh negativity. Im all for being realistic. But the lengths some posters go to make someone feel stupid for expressing excitement is baffling.

Holy sh#t, great post NUPolo! I agree with everything you posted. I actually double checked who the original poster was, due to some positivity

Anyway, I agree with the coaching trying to "outsmart" their opponent. IMO, its more offense than anything. Defense, I find myself falling back to lack of talent, before last year.

There is a breakdown on Rivals, and somewhere else on how much more we pass when we are losing to "try to get back in the game", when in reality, we should be doing what we do best. POUND the ball and use play action when needed. Obviously you need to pass to keep the defense honest, but I personally feel that when we were trailing, the play action became non existent. Not only that, but we went into pass frenzy and no run situation a few times throughout the year. These are the things that need to change IMO. We need to find out what WE do best! When trailing, I don't want to see our OC baffled and calling plays like a 5 year old on a video game. Did we see this because of his inexperience and lack of maturity at OC, or is this the type of OC he is? This is the question I think we will have answered this year. Of course, I hope its because of the lack of experience.

Again NUPolo, great post!

I wouldn't say that predicting a 11 win season is blind faith. I predict us to go undefeated every year. I am a fan and that's what I predict. I am not wrong until I am proven wrong by our results.

Didn't we win 10 games 3 of the last 5 years?

So you've been wrong for 15 straight years now? Not sure we should trust your track record.
Yea, it has been awhile since I have been right, but regardless I still do the same thing every year. Hopefully if we don't go undefeated this year I will only have to cry myself to sleep in the fetal position once and perferbably sometime in November or December.

Id rather shoot the breeze about the Huskers with the guy who thinks we can go undefeated than with a guy who thinks we cant win 10 games and hates optimism.

As for the optimists vs. realists debate...

To me, sports aren't about trying to predict the future (other than March Madness).

You have your team. You pull for your team. You shouldn't set limits on your team's success.

You can have your expectations, sure, but you shouldn't think going undefeated is impossible.

If you are part of the group that believes fans who think we can win it all every year are foolish, then you don't get to celebrate with the fools when we defy the odds and make it happen.

You can have your doubts, but when you belittle others for having high hopes, you become a dbag.
