Nebraska vs B10 Opponents

BIG ERN

All-American
Thought I would dive into some stats today from listening to some chatter of analysts and fans who said Nebraska has struggled since making the transition to the Big Ten. I know we aren't where we want to be with not having a Conference Championship, but I would say we are doing pretty well...Most of these I was aware of, but thought there would have been at least 2 teams where we had a losing record against.

(3-0) Penn State: Win, Win, Win

(2-0) Rutgers: Win, Win

(2-1) Illinois: Win, Win, Loss

(2-1) Michigan: Loss, Win, Win

(2-1) Purdue: Win, Win, Loss

(3-2) Iowa: Win, Win, Loss, Win, Loss

(3-2) Michigan State: Win, Win, Loss, Loss, Win

(3-2) Minnesota: Win, Win, Loss, Loss, Win

(3-2) Northwestern: Loss, Win, Win, Win, Loss

(1-1) Ohio State: Win, Loss

(1-4) Wisconsin: Loss, Win, (Loss B10 Championsip) Loss, Loss

We are also the only Big Ten team to have a losing record to Indiana. Obviously it's hard to gain a lead when you haven't played them in forever.

And what is our record vs Indiana? I recall kicking their butts back in the day when the numbskull on ESPN was their coach.

I thought about our Big Ten opponents a couple weeks ago, and what I expect to win against these teams. Now, my thought is that if Nebraska is going at peak levels, which it obviously hasn't since NU joined the B1G. I also realize that the majority of this time was under Bo, but Riley had too many bad losses last year.

Looking at these records, here are the opponents that NU is falling short at this time.

Illinois -- NU should rarely lose to this program. It's a BAD program. NU should be 3-0 against them, and win 90% of the games against them.

Purdue--see Illinois, but their program is even worse.

Iowa--I know Iowa has some peak years every now and then, but NU should be winning 3 out of 4 games against these clowns.

Minnesota--NU shouldn't be losing 2 games in a row against this program. That's just terrible. NU should be winning 80-90% of the time against this program.

Northwestern--I know a lot of people like Pat Fitzgerald, and he is a good coach. But, NU should be able to out-talent them nearly every year. NU should be winning 4 out of 5 games against them. It's embarrassing that NU is a Hail Mary away from a losing record against the smart guys in Evanston.

Wisconsin--this program should be NU's only true competition in the Big Ten West. NU should be expected to be .500 against Wisky. It will be interesting to see if Coach Chryst will be able to maintain them being near the top of the B1G every year. I have doubts in his abilities.

Now, I know these thoughts translate to strong seasons by NU most years, but if NU wants to get back to championship level, these expectations are reasonable.

Andersen is in Corvallis. Chryst is their coach.

I think the big thing is the consistency in play. Too up and down.

Wisky coach now edited, thanks.

Of course NU hasn't been consistent. That was the biggest thing I hated about Bo's team. Riley's teams have had a history of being inconsistent. My thoughts of expectations include NU being way more consistent in the play on the field.
