Honestly, NU needs to do better, and look further than a DC with a few years of experience at Liberty and a few seasons at SMU. Plus, they were bad against the run and against physical teams this year.

SMU struggled getting teams off the field often. Without the studs they had last year, they were just average and often not very good. In other words, this would be a similar replacement for what we had with Butler and White. Meaning, you are only as good as your players. And I feel like we need a DC with a blueprint for success and the track record to show it.

I live down the street from SMU and follow them closely, as well as TCU. I like both teams.

Symons is a BIG step up from Butler. His coaching style is to be aggressive with sacks and turnovers while stopping the run.

You could argue that John Butler knew how to stop the pass, based on his #2 ranked pass defense in the nation.

But as long as there is both running and passing, we should probably look for a DC who can stop both.

Pass. He needs to hire a Jim Knowles type, or recently fired head coach in rehab like Saban used to do. Immediate turn around like Eckeler. This team HAS to win 9 next year or theyll all be gone, might as well shoot for the moon.

The secondary success was dropping our backs into coverage leaving QB pressure and stopping the run weak. when we tried to stop the run we seen how vulnerable the secondary was in coverage. I'm not a big fan of 3-3-5 especially when you don't have the personnel for it. JMO

I want Rhule to be proactive and pick somebody that can handle all aspects of the defense. While we struggled with the run this season, I want to make sure the next DC knows how to stop the run and pass and can have a team ready to adapt depending on the opponent.
