Documentary explores Husker lore
If you think you're good at Husker trivia, you're about to have the chance to get better.

Did you know, for example, that the University of Nebraska football team never officially had the nickname Bugeaters?

"Bugeaters" is the title of Omaha filmmaker Jim Fields' documentary about the beginnings of Husker football from 1889 to 1900.

The 65-minute low-budget documentary about the first decade of football at the university, will premiere Thursday at the Omaha Community Playhouse. Fields serves up a treasure trove of Husker lore.

Fields and Kincheloe hope their payday will come from sales of the "Bugeaters" DVD, which will include a CD of the soundtrack, for $14.99. They will have copies for sale at the Omaha premiere, and online sales are planned to start Oct. 4.

"I'm all in favor of folks learning that Nebraska football didn't start with Bob Devaney, and embracing some of those early things that made Nebraska football what it is."

Really excited about this, too

Another remarkable bit of trivia from the film: Nebraska was one of the first three racially integrated football teams in the nation. George Flippin's presence on the team caused Missouri to forfeit a game rather than take the field in 1892.

Always loved the story of Ol' Flip!

Per the Huskers website he was the "fifth black athlete at a predominantly white university"

Anyone know who the other schools were??
