New Home For Political And Religous Posts/Threads?

AR Husker Fan

Team HuskerBoard
The idea was presented to us to possibly set it up so that all threads/posts of a political or religous nature get their own sub-form under an already established forum.

The idea has some appeal - as with a lot of the sub-forums it would allow those who are interested in those debates or threads/posts to jump to them in one place rather than hunting them down while allowing those who have no interest to by-pass them easily.

In talking it over, we recognized that religon and politics, probably more than any other topic, tends to bring out posters' passions - and that's when things get heated. Given that, we thought that if we created a Politics & Religon sub-forum, the Woodshed might be a good place to put it. This would allow posters to let fly without much regard to the Board rules (although note that even the Woodshed has some limits to what's allowed).

Since almost all such discussions occur here in the BS forum, we thought we'd post this idea here and see what everyone thinks. So, in order:

1. Should Politics & Religon become a sub-forum?

2. If so, should it go in the Woodshed? If not, the most appropriate location would be here in the BS forum. So - Woodshed or BS forum?

Thanks.

I'd be all for putting it in the Woodshed. And when the f-bombs and other slurs start to fly, those of you who frequent the Woodshed need to let the rest of us know so we can go in and watch. :snacks:

I'd vote BS forum. Online political/religious discussions are heated enough without profanity.

Not that anything is ever won or accomplished online anyways...but it seems like the discussions would be more likely to turn into flame wars instead of somewhat meaningful conversations.

My vote is woodshed, more freedom of speech, less filling.
A third less calories than your regular tin shed?

Main drawback I'd see in linking it to the 'shed.

The youngsters wouldn't be able to chime in...but would they really want too?.

Also..Would just the offending post go there, or the whole thread?.

Like, Say someone starts a game-day thread with different folks repeating the "team prayer" thingy...

Then someone tries too hard to be politically correct and objects about "prayer in the locker room". :dumdum

I agree with cf, but I wouldn't mind seeing one in both areas.

If someone wants in the 'Shed, we let them regardless of age - there is no way for us to verify age, so we don't try.

We'd treat it like any other - if the topic is political, the entire topic would be moved. If, however, someone interjects politics or religion in the middle of the thread we'd either ask them to continue the discussion in the 'Shed or move just those posts to a new thread in the 'Shed.

I think you have the right idea...i think you should just go ahead and do it.

I'm sure you could make like four sub-forums in the shed...two for religion and politics that are clean, two that get heated with cursing. that might be overkill but most people don't like getting attacked because of their opinions.

I like this idea also, but it may be too cumbersome. I agree that it is hard for legitimate "discussions" to occur in the shed.
