Next season and how we play now

OK. Don't burn me for this one --- i know that this season is not over yet (and will only really start next week as regards B12 play). But what about the prospects for next season.

We will lose Bowman, Octavian, Purify, Keller, Nicks, Grixby, Jones, Tierre Green, Bo Ruud, Brandenburgh, Mckeon, and Brett Byford. These are 12 of our top 16 or so players (arguably). It seems as though this squad will lose more than any of the previous squads from the Callahan era (at least in terms of number of contributors). That is, we have a pretty experienced team right now and a great deal of attrition is forthcoming.

To ease that situation some and to facilitate the transition to next year would it not be appropriate to get some playing time in for the younger LB's who will have to replace Ruud, Octavian, Brandenburgh, and McKeon? Dillard is getting PT and that is good. But will we have both OLB come in next year having had zero or near zero experience? How about at CB with Blue and Amukamara? Blue saw some PT last game and hopefully will get more as this season progresses. At safety, Thenarse? he needs more PT.

How about at QB? That is a tough one. I know that Sam Keller is doing quite well. But do we need at least a series a game for Ganz? It seems that that would help with the transition --- and if Ganz is as close to where Keller was (as suggested by the depth chart battle early on) then perhaps we would not have that much of a drop-off. I do not advocate a two QB system, but one series, just to get him used to the flow of the game and to keep him engaged as the season progresses could be of value. Sam is the man, now. But what about aiding the transition to a new QB?

Also, what if Sam goes down to injury this season and Ganz sees the field for the first time as the main manw/o having taken a meaningful snap prior to that point?

Those are good points, but our defensive line is young and hopefully we'll see some big improvements with them next year. And to me, that is the biggest thing on defense. It all starts there, and I think our D-Line next year should be pretty good (I'm hoping even to see some improvement this year).

And if we can manage to find a game or two where we're not struggling just to win, sure, give Ganz a series or two.

unfortunately, i see this team in a struggle just to survive and not lose more than 3 or 4 more games, so developing guys for next year is probably only a dream at best.

Good post and good points but losing Rudd and Mckeon can only help.
