Next year's draft

So I got to thinking, we sent 3 guys in the first 5 rounds this year. Next year we may have as many as 15-17 draftable players. In reality, it will probably be closer to 6-8. Do we chalk this up to the new coaching staff, or good recruiting by Cally's staff in their last few classes?

probably both. look at SUH, great find, but he was nothing when he started compared to when he finished after Carl and Bo's coaching and guidance.

I give Bo Pelini most of the credit for the way Suh turned out. Suh wasn't producing at near the level he finished his Nebraska career at when Callahan was there. I believe whole-heartedly that the Pelini's brought skill out of Suh, and I think after how maligned our defense was in 2007, all progress made from 2008 and on is a result of the Pelini's and not what Cosgrove or Callahan did.

A great football program is a bit like a successful business. You need both trappers and skinners. Trappers, the guys who land the contracts (or sign recruits). And skinners, the guys who get the product out the door (or develop football players). Bill was a pretty fair trapper—he landed quite a few good recruits. Bo is a tremendous skinner—developing players.
