No Coast Bias diagnoses the 'Bunker Mentality' that has plagued Nebraska

I disagree with the article. I'm amazed at how well the players respond to the sh#t they have to put up with. People freaking pick on the coaches kids. How would you put up with that? I would be in jail. And I assure you, only a small amount of the negativity they encounter is made public.

People are so brave sitting in their coach and then going on the Internet to tell you what the coaches and players should have done. Not only could they not EVER do better, people don't even have the guts to say what NU should do before the game.

Moreover, people seem to forget what they said later. For example, people are now seriously suggesting the Craig Bohl should be considered for the head coaching position ignore the incredible amount of vial sh#t posted about him when he was here. Almost ever week I see the inconsistency. Another example is the countless threads at the earlier part of the season talking about us going to the playoffs. What happened? Did the coaches and player change? Instead, of acknowledging that your assessment may be wrong, you blame the coaches and players, as if they didn't want to win. Yes, not everyone does it, but enough do.

Being a fan means putting the team first, not yourself.

Right, so one of your examples is a tweet that came eight days before Bo was fired and was clearly KB's send off in light of his last game, the other KB tweet is ambiguous as to who is providing the support (friends, family?), and the last one is from the Athletic Department's official twitter account (I would hope the AD hasn't caught the Bo-anti-fan flu) which merely repeats an undated quote from Kalu (and, in any event, the AD's tweet pre-dated Bo's firing by three days).
Just to be clear, I'm not suggesting that a player has never said a nice thing to the fans. I just haven't seen any tweet from a player since Bo's firing that is pro-fan. It's all been pro-Bo and very anti-Eichorst, fan base, and program in general. If it exists, I have not seen it.
Why do you or any of us fans need to hear that from the players now? It's not they're gonna tweet:

"Love my coach, been a real inspiration to not only me as a player, but as a man. I will miss him"

and then add 2 minutes later:

"Oh yeah, best fans in the nation!"
I think you've missed the point of this thread. This a thread about the "us against them mentality" that Bo put in the minds of the players, leading many of them to view the fans with distrust. It was suggested that this is exaggerated, and as proof that it was, a poster said that many of the players thanked the fans for their support in the wake of Bo's firing.

Haven't the small minority of players who have complained about fans explained it is the 1%? This "us against the world" mentality is exaggerated. Maybe "us against the 1% and fans who root for us to lose" is more like it now. You can't downplay their positivity while augmenting their complaints.

Thanks for the article. I look forward to a new HC & staff coming in and a fresh start for the players. Because this program needs a reboot.

I don't think it's exaggerated. If players (and coaches) spent 1% of their time on those people, then I would believe it. But it's more like 50%, or more, of their energies are directed at bad fans/media. The vibe coming from the team is more like 99% of fans/media are a-holes and only 1% get it.

Look no further than Pelini's reaction following the OSU comeback. Nearly all of his energy following the game was directed at a couple media people and the couple thousand fans who left early (down 21 in the rain). He ignored the 70K - 80K fans in the stands and everybody watching, and everybody else, so he could attack that small minority he perceived as enemies. That shows a grossly distorted perception of reality.

Good article. As more becomes known it becomes even more clear what a poisonous atmosphere Bo created in the program. So where were the classy guys on the staff like Ron Brown while this was happening?
