He is a "take my ball and go home" kinda guy. I think you were wrong on this post but I ain't gonna cry about it.
You know, you seem like a cool cat... what do you think the coaches can do to get the players to shore up the holes in the run defense? I bet Wistrom and those guys would get their azzes chewed bad by McBride, and look how they turned out! I think we are coddling this team too much. just my honest opinion.
A big problem is that Coz has his backer blitz off tackle, he should consider run blitzes in the gaps instead. Also, our D-line plays too high which makes me think coaching sucks and they are tired. We need to say forget it and play 8 in the box by bringing Ruud up to the line on the strong side, have the DE play heads up on the tackle to shoot the gap and then bring up our best safety in run support. He would play Weak side and Dillard and Octavien would be in the middle. That is our best bet I think.
WOW!! Thats an awesome answer... much respect to your knowledge of the inner workings. What does playing too high mean? they are being asked to move around too much?

Don't forget the RUN and the PASS are both hurting us right now. Wake Forest exploited both, USC Ran all over us, and Ball St. aired it out......all done easily! So you really can't put too many people in to defend the run because of our corners, who are suspect to be burnt frequently!
Yeah, I think you are right about the corners... we have to ask, what is wosre, being passed on for 40 yards a few times or having someone run right up the gut 20+ times? So whats the answer? How do we inspire the kids to play to their ability and OUR expectation?

well, if you listen to McKeon the kids are playing up to THEIR EXPECTATIONS and to the COACHES EXPECTATIONS, so we as fans should be happy with their performance right? :ahhhhhhhh :ahhhhhhhh :ahhhhhhhh :ahhhhhhhh :ahhhhhhhh

He isn't correct in regards to play action pass. That is only when safeties are playing back on come in on the run...play action effects safeties if they aren't helping corners. You don't run this defense on 3rd and 8 this is for first down and 2 or 3rd and short. Play action will beat you regardless of your defensive scheme if your corners don't play good man coverage. Besides it allows your safety to pick up a tight end in a pass play and it free up your LB to watch the run, and Ruud will watch the RB or TE on his side.

Blitzing will always hurt you if they have the right offensive call but I guarantee this is a better defense than we are running.

BTW our corners and safeties get hurt b/c the QB has too much time. You have a hard time completing a 20+ yd pass with less than 3 seconds to release. It is a better defensive scheme also because passes 20+ yards are typically completely less than 20% of the time and if you get more pressure up front that # goes down. Also, the free safety knows his only responsibility is deep help so he WON"T bite on the play action.

Now, playing high means when the ball is snapped you stand up too much. You need to fire off the ball lower to gain control of the line and get off blocks. You also need to do this to gain gap control. Think of it as a running back running straight up instead of lowering his shoulder pad.

Not trying to be insulting in any way....but it sounds like you are or have been a coach @ sometime in your life, have you?

I read the original post, but didn't want to weed thru this entire thread. So to the OP, I have to ask since you are thumping your 'holier than thou' chest -- would you even come to the games if not for the players? Lets say we had a Baylor-esque squad year after year? Would you go to the games week in - week out? Would the fan base even be as rabid as it is? Hardly.

Those players and coaches are the ones who built the tradition you love. They are the ones who pushed every weight, ran every sprint, made every tackle, every catch and every block. NOT YOU! They are the ones who made you want to sit in your seat every Saturday, even turn on your television and wear your red. They are the reason they made us want to start this historic sellout streak and they are the reason it is still going today.

I really wish people would get off their damn pedestals and wise up.

Thats awesome... I know some about the technical aspects of the game, but you know your stuff inside out! Thanks for the info! See? We are all interested in the same thing, whether people will admit it or not... we want to win and win big!

If you took the time to read it all, you would see that this thread is about getting peoples attention, just like it got yours! NOT ONCE did I say I am a better fan, etc. than anyone on this board. Personal attacks ensued becuase people didnt like my approach of grabbing attention, but guess what? It works! I think it would be a motivator for the players if they knew that their jobs were on the line if we have another D meltdown like we did the last THREE games! I, like you, no matter how wrong or right, am entitled to my opinion... and I think Steve messed up bad. Not to mention, he is bad mouthing the same fans that STAND and cheer every game at the end, no matter the outcome... It boils down to heart, and the late lacking by the players who wear the coveted blackshirt, yet, have no idea what it really means. Ask Jason Peters what he thinks... because he is the one that inspired me to say these things!!

Folks, this is the last warning - any more threads like this where insults start flying and people are going to be banned. I don't care who called names first - I don't care if you are defending yourself. The rules are clear, and if you lack the self-control necessary to follow them you need to find another board.
