United Kingdom -- A primary school sacked a woman teacher for telling heartbroken nine-year-olds there is no Father Christmas.

Parents were furious when tearful youngsters went home saying they had also been taught elves and fairies did not exist either.

The supply teacher, in her 30s, had her contract terminated after complaints to the head. Mum Amanda Piovesana, 30, said her daughter was shocked to be told: “You are old enough to know there is no Santa or fairies. If you ask your parents they will also say there is no such thing.”

Amanda said: “It’s taken away the magic.” The mum of another pupil at Boldmere Junior School in Sutton Coldfield, West Midlands, said: “Everyone is disgusted.” Head Diane Thomas-Wood confirmed: “We have followed up the matter with the agency.”

actually, I remember that was also about the age my 5th grade teacher told the class there was no Santa. It actually was a class activity to answer "Dear Santa" letters for the Kindergarten/1st grade students and pretend we were Santa...and the teacher said, "I hope most of you know there is no Santa, because we're going to do this activity."

I think at that age you start questioning it, but it was still a smack in the face by the teacher. And of course, do you go home and tell your parents that you found that out at school? Especially if you have a younger sister? Then the whole Santa coming down the chimney with lots of gifts sorta ends!! I didn't want to stop getting gifts!!

That is tough for a teacher to tell the kids at that age, but they need to find out sooner or later. Maybe the teacher will continue on with that there is no Eater Bunny or Tooth Fairy....might as well went for the tri-fecta!!!

 
for some kids around that age, it is the only happiness they may know, it is not the teachers job to break that type of news to them. Shame on her.
