Non-conference schedule

A couple comments have hit the nail on the head. OOC scheduling has become ridiculous over the last 5-10 years. The Boise State example is one. I, for one, wouldn't have a problem with giving NDSU a 2 for 1 deal, considering they just won a national championship, and they have the tools to likely do it again within the next few years. That, and the times I got to meet him while he was here, Bohl seemed to be a pretty nice guy, just wasn't the right fit for DC at the time he was here. But if we were going to do a 2-1, then put a requirement of holding it say in the Twin Cities, potentially having that series take place after the new Vikes place is built, and find a home weekend that would work when the Vikes aren't in town. I'm not sure I want to mess with the uproar if we tried to use the Gophers stadium, and Fargodome likely wouldn't be nearly big enough for what we'd want. Something like that deal. That, or get NDSU to come for a big payday, which Bohl and the AD up there *might* be willing to do.

Overall, though, I can't fault our OOC scheduling. Really no different than what most BCS conference teams have to do today. I think both Pederson and Osborne were up against the same obstacles in that respect.

No. I do not ever want to see this team traveling to play a 1-AA school. I don't care if they won their title, it would be embarrassing.

A BCS AQ, or even FBS school in general...traveling to an FCS school would be unprecedented. As part of a one for one, two for one or even three for one. Even to a neutral site.

NU would become the laughing stalk of CFB for a time if they were to play such a game.

Yeah, can you imagine the national perception we would get from traveling to NDSU? It was bad enough when we went to Wyoming.

i would think if we play a 2-1 with Huston or SMU would be good for recruiting and help us keep our recruiting open in Texas

I'm not sure if the logistics would work, but it'd be kind of cool to see a single-season 'round-robin', or a 'double round-robin' over 2 seasons. Three schools agree to play each other, and possibly stretch it out over two seasons to move venues fairly. Involve a trophy, bragging rights, and teams that are on the same level.

So, for example. Get three teams that have some history and are OOC.

Nebraska...Notre Dame...Miami

Year One:

Nebraska plays: at Notre Dame, has Miami at home

Miami plays: at Nebraska, Notre Dame at home

Notre Dame plays: at Miami, Nebraska at home

Year Two (which I'd prefer a double round-robin) if you decided to do it, would be the same but just switching home and aways.

This is just an example, but would be a good way to develop a two-year dogfight, play against good competition to help SOS, as well as have sort of a mini-playoff in the out-of-conference schedule to further keep the regular season relevant and exciting. And you still have two OOC games to play outside of this.

I doubt it'd ever happen, but IMO would be fun to see.

With UCLA, Miami and Tenn being down now they don't seem like tough games but Miam and Tenn might be Top 20 by the time Neb plays them. I believe the B1G schools need to schedule (and hopefully beat) some of the bigger programs in the SEC, ACC, B12. The B1G has a poor reputation and needs some big wins on a national stage. Playing MAC teams with ND thrown in doesn't impress anyone.

True, but the SEC can make a legitimate argument that they don't need to schedule strong OOC teams due to the preceived strength of the SEC. B1G on the otherhand is seen as pitiful come bowl season (some of which I blame on the bowl alignments). Beating MAC teams and ND in the OOC schedule does nothing to improve the B1G's perception as a weak conf.
