Dood, you're totally right...I didn't mean to say Nebraska was a crappy school I apologize. NU is pretty much the only thing I care about. But as far as available football programs (USC, OSU, OU, LSU etc...) NU was sitting pretty far down on the totem poel at the time. Which is why everyone at nebraska should be exceited that we are recruiting a bunch of instate people this year that will play because they are wearing an N on their helmets and for no other reason. Thats all they should need. Are YOU serious? :wtf...a pretty crappy school...
Fair enough...I'll buy that...Dood, you're totally right...I didn't mean to say Nebraska was a crappy school I apologize. NU is pretty much the only thing I care about. I agree with this. I think callahan's greatest problem was not firing Cosgrove. Here's the deal with Callahan in my mind, both for and against him. First, he is a TERRIBLE play caller...awful. but the last few weeks he hasn't been calling most the plays, and the offense has REALLY done well. He does put together a solid offense. He always has. His offense has rarely been to blame for poor performance, even this year when it was sucking, it was just feeding of a really bad defense. Callahan also hasn't taken a strong enough stance about excellence, he doesn't do well inspiring the players, and he should have fired Cosgrove. He is also pretty good at recruiting...before all this mess we had the #2 QB in the nation comming to a pretty crappy school...thats good recruiting. In summary, I won't be against getting rid of him, but if we keep him (and he shows us he CAN win these last two games) I won't be sad as long as we get a new DCI think Cally hitched his wagon to Cosgrove by not firing him so he's gone too. If he had just fired Cosgrove he might have been granted a reprieve for next year but it's far too late now. One win, even two isn't going to change anything at this point.
All good points. No excuse for Missouri. I think the D sucked so bad it affected the O, but still need to be able to get up points. I think the reason he hasn't fired cosgrove is all simply they are good friends....pretty crappy reason to ruin our whole state, but thats why. I do think he is probably a hard guy to work with too. I honestly am all for getting a new Coach in most aspects...but he is good at recruiting for his offense, and his offense kicks a$$ if it works. He's like Texas Tech, if their defense shows up to play, they blow people out of the water, otherwise they die.I think putting up 2 field goals against the #95 ranked defense is probable cause to blame Clownahan for poor offensive performance. I believe putting up a great big goose egg against Okie State in the first half of HOMECOMING is more than probable cause to blame Clownahan for poor offensive performance.
Being pretty good at recruiting is a two way street. I believe he had a top notch QB in his 2004 class. Where is he now? We had a great 2004 class, but we've seen little to show for it. Some of that class left, and some others don't see the field.
I have no idea whether or not he can call plays. Last year, his scripted plays worked pretty good. This year, we have been in most games the first quarter and led some of them. We were up on USC at one point as we were up on KU at one point. The thing he cannot do or doesn't do is make adjustments. He has never won a game here when trailing at halftime. His gametime adjustments have to be the worst in the Big 12. Watson in what few times he's been given the chance does make some good calls. However, Clownahan just can't contain himself from taking back over.
Even if Clownahan would do some house cleaning, what makes you think his next hire would be any more adequate? I sometimes wonder how difficult he is to work for/with? Norvell took a lateral move to a team that was sure to fire their HC if he didn't have a good season this year. When Norvell left, there was more certainty that UCLA would fire their HC than NU would fire BC. We've not only had staff turnover under his administration, we've also had player turnover. I can't think of one DC out there worth his salt that would consider coming here to coach under Clownahan.
What makes you think Callahan is suddenly going to motivate his players and get them to play with fire? He had all season to do it and waited until the end of the season.Three weeks ago, I wanted the whole coaching staff skinned alive while soaking in vinegar. Not so anymore. And not really even because we won last week. Its all been Joe Ganz. I think he showed us all that when someone with a little motivation gets in there, our offense really does kick some a$$. Obviously the K-State game helped. The offense under him has scored more points than nebraska as (nearly) ever seen. Only two games, but I think if we see 3 game winning streak, or at least high scoring streak we should think about keeping BC around.
Here's a good article out today:

Cosgrove should have been gone four weeks ago...at least. Also all these rumors about BC having another job lined up...just not true. He really really does want to stay and if he doesn't get fired because he puts on a good show these last couple games, he will stay, and I honestly won't be very sad. This is why TO said he would wait, you never know what will happen. Our team has crazy physical talent, and I think once they get a leader (Ganz?) and some good D (as seen this past saturday), they can kick some serious a$$. Anyone out there agree?
Again, Cosgrove should be long gone.
:madash ARE YOU ON CRACK!?! A potential 3 game winning streak does not erase 4 years! BC must have brainwashed you with his "Joe's a player of the system" and "it's coaching" comments in regards to JG's success. I don't see your logic behind keeping BC on board. :wtfThree weeks ago, I wanted the whole coaching staff skinned alive while soaking in vinegar. Not so anymore. But I feel like we are heading into a revolving door situation and our next coach wont do any better...especially if we switch to an option...oh man. We would basically have to get rid of all our players and recruit all over again, that would take another 4 years, at that point we would be pissed again and fire that coach...go back to passing game...and all over again.
I say if BC can prove that he can win games and pull of a miracle and win a bowl game from this hellish season (if he can't, lets all pitch in and stone him to death...I'll help) we should make the adjustments that need to be made (D) without changing the whole offensive focus he has built. The offense works 39pts on Kansas just cause our D gave up doesn't mean we didn't still score 39 points, thats the most any team has scored this year on them. 31 pts on USC...still some of the most points scored on them.

I get what you're saying about the revolving door. I also think you hit the nail on the head comparing us to Texas Tech. What has Texas Tech really accomplished over the past 5 years or so? Absolutely nothing. I'd rather win a game 10-0 than 41-40. You talk about pulling off a miracle and winning a bowl game. This shouldn't be a miracle. It's because of his coaching and our poor play that make it appear to be a miracle.
Since he's been here, we have NEVER won a game when trailing at half. He's NEVER beat a team that finished in the top 20. If you really wanna break the KU game down, I think you look no further than 4 INT's that were a direct result of 28 points. We also had a fumble giving them the short field that accounted for another 7 points. Our offense handed them 35 points. If you wanna pat that offense on the back, go right ahead. There are a lot of QB's and offenses out there that can rack up huge yards against a D playing prevent. How many of those 31 points against USC came in garbage time?
BC still holds the record in the NFL for a team that makes a Super Bowl and then nose dives so fast the following year. Do I need to really mention all the piss poor records he's broken this year? Almost everyone in the media says he needs to go. Almost everyone in the fanbase says he needs to go. Trying to find reasons to keep him are few and far between. The same talk came about after the Texas game when we played them so close. How do we follow it up? With an absolute beatdown by KU. How many more years of this do you really want to endure? It sounds good in theory to clean house and hire a bunch of new assistants. However, what will this really accomplish? He hired Watson, but he won't even let him do his job. He hired all of his assistants. There are several of them that are questionable to say the least. What makes you really think he'll do a better job of hiring new ones?
