nu and polls

If we win out we are most likely playing USC aren't we? Unless Oregon blows it even more and loses the Pac 10, then we'd be playing them. I don't like that thought - their offense will struggle heavily with us, but likewise with our offense vs. theirs.

the polls are soooo meaningless anymore. Ever since 01 when we went from #1 to #7 back to #1 because everyone ahead of us lost while we were finished playing... they have been screwy.
That doesn't really make sense (aside from the fact that we only went back to #2). Should the teams that lost have stayed above us??

The polls mean a lot. I'd say with the BCS they mean more than ever.

If you hope to make a championship run, you'd better be in a good enough position to move up during the season. It's hard to start out of the top 25 and make it. It's especially important when a one-loss team is going to get in.

It's also a requirement for a BCS bowl if you don't win your conference championship. If you aren't in the top 14 (?), you won't get in except in some odd cases.

Being in the top 25 also puts you in the highlight reels and scoreboard shows. More exposure is good for all kinds of reasons, from recruiting to getting better TV games to moving higher up with wins, and so on.

All that said, it's a lot more important for the team to take care of what happens on the field, and let the polls take care of themselves.
