LAS CRUCES — The New Mexico State Aggies will play at Nebraska in 2008 in a non-conference football game.

New Mexico State head football coach Hal Mumme said Thursday evening the Aggies will make roughly $800,000 by competing against the Cornhuskers. Nebrasksa is 2-0 all-time vs. NMSU, but the two teams haven't played since 1982.

The Aggies, who improved from 0-12 to 4-8 in Mumme's second year, will play at Auburn this Fall and at Ohio State in 2009.

Nebraska went 9-5 last season and plays in the Big 12 Conference.

"Nebraska is a great program and has great tradition, it will be a great opportunity for us," said Mumme.

Quarterback Chase Holbrook, who threw for more than 4,600 last season as a sophomore, and receiver Chris Williams who caught 92 balls last year as a sophomore, will be among the seniors in 2008.

"Playing at a place like Nebraska is great and it's great exposure for our program," said Holbrook. "You always want to go up against the best. I grew up in Dallas and I followed the Big 12 a great deal."

Not saying that NMSU would beat us....but....it'd be nice if these guys tested the NFL waters after the '07 season!

NMST looks to be the warm up the backups game for '08. I dont know if we want Idaho on the '08 sched with MTSU, with the precieved weekness of the North, too many cupcakes looks bad come bowl time.

Hopefully we can show them what a real stadium looks like with the best fans in the land!!!! :bonez

This is my 8000 post!!!!

Like someone already said, a soft non conference schedule could hurt us in the long run.

Big 12 has enough solid competition to have a soft non conference. One toughy is more than enough. You need a few scrimmages
Unless some other teams in the north improve, they end up apearing to be the scrimmages. In '08 we get OU, Baylor and Tech from the south. While OU and Tech win us points in the media, Baylor, and anyone other than Mizzou from the north ends up against us. I am not asking for all the non conf games to be contenders, But it would be better if they were the also-rans(like iowa, haha) from BCS conferences instead of also-rans from the mountain west and conference USA. MTSU has 4 wins in two seasons. Idaho isnt much better, most people couldnt even tell you there was a college football team from Idaho.
