NU's yardstick game

I think it's hilarious how every Mizzou fan thinks their team is "battle-tested" and "proven" and how everybody else needs to "hold up their end of the bargain by beating somebody good." All because they beat Illinois.

They're always accusing us of blind hero worship and Kool-Aid drinking. Yet MU nearly loses to Bowling Green and it's so easily explained as a simple "let-down game" after a "big win." I think they have a lot left to learn about this Mizzou team, and a great deal of it won't be pleasant for them.

MU handled the good team and barely got their act together, mark of a young team and coordinators and passed a difficult test. for those who question, 3 MAC teams beat BCS teams last weekend, including a highly regarded MI State team at home and western mi was rated middle of the pack in MAC, of course Toledo destroyed the CU team many of you were so worried about before season.

NU throttled Western Michigan last year. They didn't need 3 TDs in the last 16 minutes to win the game. NU still went on to get blown out a couple times later in the season. I don't think playing MAC teams early in the season says much about how a team will do later on.

I'm not sure why you think this gut-check win over Bowling Green means anything positive for Mizzou.

 
what it means is in Pinkel's past, this would have been a loss, OC wouldn't have made adjustments, kept committment ot running the ball, d shut down falcons O for last 25 minutes and O regrouped and moved the ball the way they should have. For a very young team it was learning while winning. That is growth for any program.

To a husker fan or north fan, this game is huge as it is against one of ESPN's favorites, the power in the ACC for years, they will actually pay close attention to it. Your the underdog but have a chance to show who you are and you will, one way or another. In the ongoing debate over how to rank conferences, every game a north team plays on National tv or against a name opponent is very important. It will be interesting. Either you will be more thought of much more to the talking heads or they will dismiss you because of all the early hype if huskers don't play well. Talking heads don't like to look bad.

 
A win Saturday would go a long ways towards us getting our swagger back. A loss Saturday keeps the chapter open to games like Mizzou and OU last year. If we can go in there Saturday and win a game of this magnitude, it would really clear the cloudy skies that have been hanging over this team for years.

Mizzou lives and dies by mismatches. Fast players, huge gaps between defenders, and a QB with a quick release. That means they typically feast upon lesser teams, struggle with teams that can match their speed, and get totally dominated by teams that combine speed with a greater degree of physicality than they are used to. Mizzou's offense is designed to win games against Bowling Green by the middle of the second quarter.

Now that this offense has struggled against a mediocre-to-poor defense, all this game proves is that Mizzou is just as inconsistent as everybody else in the north this year. If anything, it says that the media, and all non-homer spectators were right about their preseason assessment of Mizzou: inexperienced.
