Man gets jail time in gun incident

A 47-year-old transient suspected of taking a gun that a Lincoln police officer accidentally left under a bench was sentenced Tuesday to 180 days in jail.

Thomas Livings pleaded no contest in April to an amended charge of attempted possession of a firearm by a felon, a felony punishable by up to five years in prison.

Authorities said the officer left his duty belt underneath a bench near the Matt Talbot kitchen the evening of Oct. 7. Police found Livings with the gun and magazines a short time later in an apartment near 23rd and Q streets.

So what happened to the officer??????

No doubt about it! He's going to get at least a written repremand.

And the system gets to feed and house some low life for 180 days. Seems the officer should pick up the tab and help this guy get a job once he gets out.
