per ljs

Andy Christensen, a senior offensive lineman from Bennington, has been suspended indefinitely from the team following his arrest in Lincoln on Friday night.

He was arrested for alleged first-degree sexual assault and resisting arrest. He remains in the Lancaster County Jail.

Nebraska coach Bo Pelini issued the following statement Saturday morning:

"We are aware of the arrest of Andy Christensen as a result of an incident in downtown Lincoln last night. The charges against Andy are serious in nature and these types of actions will not be tolerated. Andy has been indefinitely suspended from our football program. I will address Andy's future status when more complete details regarding the situation are available."

What is wrong with players now days. They have a free education and a chance to possibly play in the NFL and they just pI$$ it away. But, I guess I shouldn't jump to conclusions and wait to hear what happened.

Nebraska football player Andy Christensen wound up in jail and indefinitely suspended from the team after Lincoln police were called to the Brass Rail early Saturday in response to an alleged sexual assault.

Lincoln Police Capt. Joseph Wright said Christensen, 21, was jailed on suspicion of first-degree sexual assault, resisting arrest and failure to comply.

He said Christensen allegedly approached a 23-year-old woman from behind and put his hand under her skirt. Both Christensen and the alleged victim were at the downtown bar at the time of the incident, Wright said.

Christensen was still in the Lancaster County Jail as of early Saturday afternoon.

Nebraska coach Bo Pelini said in a statement that he was aware of the arrest of Christensen, a key cog on the Huskers' offensive line the past two years.

"The charges against Andy are serious in nature and these types of actions will not be tolerated," Pelini said. "Andy has been indefinitely suspended from our football program. I will address Andy's future status when more complete details regarding the situation are available."

Initial calls to the Christensen family's residence in Omaha were not returned.

Christensen graduated from Bennington High School and worked his way up the ladder at Nebraska to start eight of 14 games his sophomore year, playing at both guard spots.

His junior year figured to possibly be even better, but Christensen suffered a season-ending knee injury in just the third game of the season against Southern Cal.

Christensen also earned several academic honors, claiming first-team academic All-Big 12 status in 2006.
