Was Ash responsible?

2013 Wisconsin - 14th pass defense, 6th total defense (6th in rushing as well)

There are a few things that make Wisconsin's defense what it is, of course these apply in one way or another to all teams:

- Opponents (Wisconsin didn't play too many great offenses in '13 and rarely does, applies for most teams in the B1G)

- Talent

- Strength of the Offense, their ability to get out ahead of opponents and dominate TOP

- Coaching

I figure if you can get two of those factors in your favor your defense will look decent to good. Wisconsin had most of those working in its favor all year except for the PSU and South Carolina games.

To be fair to Ash he inherited a depleted Arkansas defense racked with injuries, transfers, poor talent and inexperience. Judging by Arkansas's recruiting this year it doesn't look to get any better so he was smart to dump the Razorbacks before his coaching reputation was completely shot.
