OWH: How Many Depressing Stats Do You Want?

OK. That's not really the title of the article.

But if you want a sobering view of the state of Nebrasketball - other than watching the games - look no farther.

Well, there’s another $90,000 all shot to hell.

That’s the check Nebraska wrote to Gardner-Webb of the Big South to come to Pinnacle Bank Arena to play men’s basketball.

It’s unclear if the $90,000 also covered the lesson this 4,900-enrollment school from Boiling Springs, North Carolina, administered during its 70-62 upset of the Huskers.

One good thing is not many people saw it. The actual attendance of 8,144 is thought to be the smallest in the four years that 15,000-seat PBA has been open. The shine is fading fast.

Whether that applies to the arena or Tim Miles, I’ll let you decide.

“There are a lot of empty minutes out there,” Miles said, speaking generally. “I’ve got to figure out how to get those guys better looks and better ways to be productive.”

No s#!^. Five years in and we still have no clue how to do this.

How about actually running an offense. That would be a handy place to start.

Sadly we don't have an offense and we can't recruit bigger guards. Not saying that big guards equal wins but a Sg should be 6-3 or taller and our 4 man should be 6-8 paired with a 6-10 or taller guy on the floor. Roby is a three but he is athletic enough to play the four, so I don't mind him there. Shooters is what we need on this team and we don't have that. Wonder who we go after that runs good offenses if Miles doesn't right the ship. Really like Tim, but it seems he will not be here much longer barring a turnaround to this season.

Here is what a new coach has when he comes to Nebraska

New Arena, Newer practice facility, a great pg and a great pf. Great admin support, no holding back on resources. A fan base that will come out if you win or if you are .500 they will come out and support. Not a lot of history here, but you can sell big boy recruits with early PT. A center who has the potential to be really good under a great coach. Among others, also I would assume we pay the next guy really well, I'm thinking we open up the checkbook and see who we can get hopefully.

Mean while the team 50 miles down the road is swimming in talent - Miles needs to be gone ASAP. I hate it when people get fired but this guy really has no clue and apparently has no clue how to recruit. Sounds like a familiar story under Eichorst! The women's coach is also a joke.

I love the guy (Coach Miles), but as a head coach for Nebraska, not so much. As a ticket holder since 85, I would be ok with a mid season firing... there is not a lot to salvage this season. We may "get lucky" and knock off a top 20 team, but I am all for riping off the Band-Aid sooner than later.

Yes someday we might accidentally catch on fire and win a tourny game in my lifetime, but it will be a statistical abnormality.

I think this is the new normal for Nebraska athletics. 4-6 years, win some games, lose a bunch, then say "Next!"

The talk was not that we are a better team the second shields leaves - nobody said that (shields is no doubt one of the best we have had). The discussion was that the sum of the players starting the following year being a year older and some new talent that was coming should be able to cover the loss of a great player (Shavon) - so different then what you are trying to convey. Now i'm sure most of those posters (myself included) would never have guessed we would be struggling like we are right now.
