Some Husker players enter camp with every opportunity in front of them. Guys who might be running out of time to make a big impact. We call them “prove-it” players who have a chance to make a big mark now or risk finding themselves lower on the depth chart. This list is limited to players who have been in the program at least two years and are entering at least their true junior or redshirt sophomore season.

In alphabetical order:

Sophomore center Michael Decker

Junior outside linebacker Luke Gifford

Junior outside linebacker Sedrick King

Junior safety Antonio Reed

Sophomore tight end Matt Snyder

Junior Mikale Wilbon

Honestly, I would have put Bootle or Lee on the list if Blades had been fully qualified. Probably pretty harsh on Bootle since he's still a freshman and couldn't make their list, but we are going to have an incredible camp battle next season at this position, especially if Jones is here. Time for Lee and Bootle to break out and I think they will.

How can an underclassman, let alone two, be on this list? They can't even follow their own setup: "Guys who might be running out of time to make a big impact."

I think what McKewon was saying "these guys need to step up this year, or they will end up getting lost in the shuffle in the future years". Despite being sophomores, I think it's important for Decker and Snyder to be contributors to the team.

Snyder was a much bally-hooed recruit, and was supposed to be a perfect fit for Riley's offense. I know he has battled injuries during his time at NU, but this is a key year for him to contribute. NU lost the top 3 TE's from last year, and with only Hoppes ahead of him in terms of experience, Snyder should be expected to step in and play well. If he doesn't he could end up being one of those guys who never pan out.

Decker is similar. There was talk of him walking away from the game last year. If he isn't able to make a run at significant playing time this year, he could get passed up by younger guys coming through the pipeline.
