International Man of Mystery
Pat Summitt to become coach emeritus

For the first time since 1974, Tennessee will open a basketball season with a new head coach on the bench for the Lady Vols.

Pat Summitt, who led Tennessee to eight national titles and compiled an overall record of 1,098-208, called Inside Tennessee with the news on Wednesday afternoon.

“I am not going anywhere,” Summitt said. “They are going to have to put up with me anyway.”

Those remarks were delivered with a laugh, an indication that Summitt was at peace with the decision to retire but remain close to the program,

“I think it’s important for the players,” Summitt said. “Some of them came here because of me and I just want them to know that I am not going anywhere.

“I will be there for them if they want to come in my office and talk. I am still going to be at Tennessee.”
Sad day. It was inevitable after her diagnosis, but still sad to see the day it happens.

Agree with all these sentiments. Not that they went out the same way, but her retirement really makes me think of TO, and his retirement, and that type of legacy as a coach. You never really heard about scandals at Tennessee, and she seemed to do things the right way. College athletics lost another great one.

Not much to say that hasn't already been said in this thread. In the words of Barney Stinson:

LEGEN...wait for it...DARY!!!!

Best wishes to Pat and her family.

There's nothing more terrifying to me than the thought of living without my memories...might as well be dead.
