Pelini, Miles, Yori & Eichorst to Take "Whistle-Stop" Tour

Nebraska's coaches -- including football coach Bo Pelini and basketball coach Tim Miles -- and athletic director Shawn Eichorst will be part of a June 28 Union Pacific "whistle-stop" event in Omaha, Columbus, Grand Island, Kearney and North Platte.

Union Pacific announced the event Wednesday in a press release.

The event kicks off in Omaha at Durham Museum, then progresses through the state, ending at Bailey Yard in North Platte. At each stop other than Omaha, coaches will mingle with fans "thanking the fans that support UNL athletic programs," according to the press release.

"Historically, a whistle-stop tour brought Presidents to cities where they could communicate directly with the people they served," Nebraska's associate athletic director Paul Meyers said. "That's exactly what we're doing, meeting people and thanking them for all the support they've shown to University of Nebraska Athletics, year after year and decade after decade. We thought it was a great idea to ride Union Pacific's tradition to help support our own."

The UP will pull out their neat-o passenger/business cars for this, and they'll be loaded with boosters no doubt.

Hopefully the engine will be something cool too. Probably not a steam engine (unless NU lays down some serious caysh), but more than likely something like this or this.

For you non-train geeks (that's just about everybody) the first link is one of two running steam engines (to be three in a few years once they get the Big Boy restored to running condition) that the UP operates. The second link is the Centennial 6900 series - the world's largest diesel ever built/ran. The third link is an E9 diesel used in the 1950s and 60s.

Warren Buffet and BNSF missed this opportunity.

Oh and hey... why doesn't Ersty get a ticket?
