We know our DL is among the better ones. Unfortunately, that's only 4 positions out of 22. The offensive line has been a huge disappointment this season. We have some talent in places, and have needs in others.

Who doesn't?

Wisconsin doesn't?

Minnesota doesn't?

Anybody at all for that matter?

It's really hard to evaluate the talent we have when the coaches don't play the best players, don't adjust schemes to the opponent or call good plays, and have failed miserably at motivating the team. I'm inclined to think we have some pretry darned good athletes. What we need are some coaches that will develop them, utilize them properly, and quit messing with their heads. Once that gets fixed then we might have a better idea how well we're stocked.

Yep, Wisconsin and Minnesota are examples 1A and 1B of where our OL needs to get. Yesterday.

So sick of hearing about Nebraska's "limitations". The talent is on the roster folks. Don't let people tell you otherwise. We were touting the defensive line all year. Nate Gerry's been playing great all season til' Bo and Co.'s scheme gets exposed once again by a rushing team. Why anyone throws the ball against us is beyond me. It's not a talent issue, it's a scheme issue.

Sipple at least acknowledged his feelings on Nebraska's talent prior to the season.

I dialed him up Sunday morning because I think it's important to hear opinions from outside the vortex of the Big Red storm, which is rather intense at the moment."

Nebraska has a hard time competing with other top programs because its so difficult to recruit at a high level here.........Wait a minute? What about:

Its become ridiculous at this point the way people have bent or even completely broken their previous expectations and analysis of the talent on this team all in an effort to deflect responsibility from these coaches. The more troubling part is that they would short sell this program and sell the players short, rather than hold the grown men who are currently paid to do the job accountable.

I'm definitely still in agreement that there is lots of talent on both sides of the ball. In fact I still think were pretty even with the likes of Wisconisin, they're just leaps and bounds ahead of us coaching wise. Who looked like the more talented team in that first quarter before adjustments were made? Certainly wasn't Wiscy IMO.

My question was mainly more directed at if there is a position on either side of the ball, where we are just really lacking in talent (whether it's the wrong starters or horrible recruiting) so much that it wouldn't matter if we had the best coaches in CFB, that position would still struggle.

Nebraska is without question one of the most talented teams in the Big Ten, and going by recruiting metrics, they're more talented than the teams that are higher than them in the division. They have better talent than Wisconsin and they have better talent than Minnesota. The only teams more "talented" than Nebraska based on recruiting metrics are probably Michigan and Ohio State, if you compare the rankings over the last several years.

I'm a firm believer that Nebraska has the talent on this team to compete for and win conference titles. Their issues, like the ones that have been persistent for several years, come down to coaching IMHO.

IIRC, NU's average class is roughly 22, Wisky 49 and Wisky 56........

OL has been the biggest deficiency in the Pelini era, IMHO. In seven years, we've only managed to produce an above average offensive line at best. Their deficiences have been wildly apparent in games against top ranked opponents. Also, IIRC, we've only produced one notable NFL lineman and that was Spencer Long (a former walk-on.) The NFL is not the only measuring stick for an OL, but, I think it says something that OL from the Pelini era are virtually non-existent in the NFL.

We've certainly had some bad luck with transfers, decommits, etc. But, at some point, a poignant OL should have developed and it never really did.

I'm inclined to say the offensive line is the main problem on offense. However, I'm not sure it's so much that we don't have the right players, so much as it is we don't have the right ones starting. Armstrong is another offensive inconsistency. Would he make a jump if our line had better pass blocking?

On defense besides Zaire (who's been a beast), I have been rather unimpressed with our linebackers. Are our struggles here a scheme issue or does it come back to not having the right players? Our secondary hasn't been terrible but they've definitely had their struggles. I like Josh Mitchell, he's just too small to make a lot of the plays we need him to make but he's a senior and "knows the defense". Should we have different players starting in the secondary?

What personnel changes do you guys think we should make, if any?

Thats my knock on Bo. His scheme takes "academics" over "athletes". I would rather have a guy make a mistake at 100 MPH and have he athleticism to recover than a guy who "knows" the system, but has issues translating it to performance.

unfortunately, I don't think #5 has the "academics" or the "athleticism" to perform in this scheme...
