I know a lot of people here can't stand Pete Carroll, but Carroll and Pelini are actually friends. Carroll hired Pelini as the DB coach when he was HC of the New England Patriots in the late 90s.
Who is this "Callahan" you speak of? Last I remember Frank Solich was fired Bo Pelini coached us to a victory in a bowl game and has been the coach ever since. Come to think of it Tom Osborne wasnt the AD last I remember and I am unsure how he ended up there. Maybe i was in a coma for awhile. What's the "difficult situation" he's referring to? That we underachieved big time when Callahan was here?

It was a remarkable turnaround. Too bad the suckiness of the offense last season just about matched the suckiness of the defense in 2007.Difficult situation is the understatement of the century when you think of that 07 'defense'. Pelini has inarguably overseen the single most impressive defensive turnaround in recent memory. The man can flat-out coach.
This is why the phrase defense wins championships has been coined. Compare the records of 07' and 09'. Teams can still win a title with a somewhat mediocre offense and stout defense. I think Alabama last year would fit this scenario. I remember when Clownahan was hired and people were excited because of the offense he was going to bring in and what it meant in terms of being able to score quickly and come back and win games when down a few scores. It's also why so many defensive minded coaches have been winning titles. Even the old ball coach had to bring in Stoops to win a title. It was a remarkable turnaround. A "somewhat mediocre" offense last season would have put the Huskers in a BCS game (at a minimum). On the bright side, I fully expect the offense to be at least a little better this season. It'd be nice to see a team that is very good (or great) on both sides of the ball again. This is why the phrase defense wins championships has been coined. Compare the records of 07' and 09'. Google failed, so I can't verify. Just sharing what I read a few months ago. Wish I remembered where I read it so I could ask the guy if he had a source to it.Nice comment——but the source?? Ha ha! It's like some Wall Street wizard portfolio manager getting a resounding endorsement from Bernie Madoff.
Ha ha! I am not questioning *your* source. I am saying that Pete Carroll is a questionable source for giving out compliments. Carroll's word may be true--Bo is great!!--even though Pete Carroll is a slimebag. Like Bernie Madoff complimenting some other Wall Street guy.Google failed, so I can't verify.
