As we sit here and agonize over the number of guys we've lost off the team this year, it's good to put the whole thing into perspective. Nebraska certainly isn't alone in losing players - for whatever reason - and we're not even close to the top of the list in number of players lost. In the Big Ten alone Iowa and Penn State have had more attrition - although Penn State's are for obvious reasons.

I would take the SEC's with a grain of salt. I wonder how many of those kids were called in the offseason & told they no longer have a schollarship or if injured took a medical hardship schollarship.

The "oversigning" thing? That was, of course, my first thought, too. Still, it's interesting to see how many teams lose solid guys.

If someone is really ambitious, I'd be interested in seeing the number of stars these teams lost, as in, four-star recruits, three-star recruits, etc. I'm not enough of a recruitnik to do that legwork, though.

 
I have been wanting to post this for awhile, and this is as good of a place as anywhere else. Has anyone noticed the lack of luster from the 2011 recruiting class? Tyler Moore-gone. Aaron Green-gone. Ryan Klachko-gone. Bubba Starling-never made it. Todd Peat-didn't make the 105. Those are five of the top seven or eight guys from that class.

 
I think a lot of people have noticed, and are kinda worried.

We go to a much easier Big Ten rotation the next two years, but when that 2011 class are Juniors - when we'll need them the most - we'll be relying on sophomores and seniors because the heart of that class was gutted.

Of course, that's one of the reasons Bo & Co. have gone with this recruiting agency to better help them target or evaluate or whatever they do with recruits. I think we are seeing dividends from that right now. Hopefully we can work around that class.

And, the other thing is, we have guys like Ameer Abdullah, Jamal Turner, Mike Moudy, Josh Mitchell, Jay Guy, Harvey Jackson, Chase Rome, etc to pick up the slack for the departed. Those guys aren't chopped liver.

You are absolutely correct! Call it attrition if you want, but I bet if you talked to some the kids that "left" they would tell you it wasn't because they wanted to.

 
Glad to see some numbers like that to prove it happens everywhere. Actually until just this last 6 months, attrition has been pretty good under Pelini with only 1 or 2 a year.

Yeah we have taken some big blows to that class already. Hopefully Peat gets a wake up call, and can recover from back trouble. By all accounts Curry is the real deal and could be nipping at Romes heals by midseason, he already weighs 15lb more then Williams so he might have been playing over him anyway. Williams only at 265 is concerning and Peats back problems are really killing our depth. IF we could just get Rome, Curry, Williams, Peat, Valentine to all stay healthy we could have some really good quality depth there for the next few years after this season. It looks like we are set on getting a JUCO DT this cycle so im not worried about depth on the dline, its the oline as everyone knows that is in really bad shape. Reeves and Cotton are both still hurt and are barely practicing and we have our starting center, as a backup guard. We are seriously hurting on the oline with the two transfers, and injuries, an injury or 2 on the oline and we are in serious trouble. We will be ok if we can stay healthy. Pelini saying Cotton is 100% is a joke, hes not even participating in scrimmages.

We need 5 Oline in this next class.
