Phil Steele's 2013 Nebraska Preview

Whoa whoa...settle it down here fellas....I just think the 2010 team had more potential than the Suh driven 2009 team....

The 110 penalties didn't help the 2010 team at all...and those weren't all NEB's fault IMO...

If Martinez doesn't go down....NEB is a 1 loss team going into the CCG IMO.

You might mean 2009. In 2010, neb had speedy Martinez, kyler reed, helu, burkhead...it wasn't too shabby of an offense.
Yeah maybe the 45 fumbles and 110 penalties are clouding my memory.
That's cool man...differing opinions...I just happen to think the 2010 team had more potential to do some greater things than the 2009...the seasons showed...and the 2010 happened to be more balanced...it's all good.

Penalties, turnovers and poor special teams (except for fantastic kickers) have been hurting NU since Bo has been head coach. I expect to see improvement in these areas, and if there is improvement, NU will start having 2 loss seasons instead of 4 loss seasons. It will be much more fun on this board complaining about not winning the MNC rather than not winning the CCG.

It was purley circumstantial that NU's opponents averaged about 1/3 to 1/2 their normal penalties in 2010. Just wild luck that against A&M there was a 16-2 penalty disparity while A&M was talking about leaving the conference behind closed doors. Even though they averaged almost 9 penalties a game, had 11 penalties the week before against Baylor, 8 penalties the week after vs Texas, and had no less than 6 penalties in any prior game, it was just a coincidence.
