Why is everyone so high on Tennessee this year? Sure they have most of their starters back. But they're back from a squad that dropped four games last year. I'm guessing they drop at least three or four games again this year. And finish around 20th or so. :dunno :

I wonder that as well. I like Phil Steele but tbh, I don't agree with a lot this list

Because they've recruited in the top 10 since Butch Jones got there, they're in the SEC, but they're in the SEC East, which is bad.

Honestly, I get Tennessee more than the Washington or Iowa love.

I think the Washington love being a result of the P12 being generally down, particularly in the north. And the fact that, probably rightly, Peterson is considered the best HC in the P12 right now (except maybe Shaw) and people think he'll get it going this year.

Iowa will be good but not great. I'd guess you could flip Iowa and nebraska's finishes based on who wins that game.

All based on what they done in February. They do return Dobbs and Hurd though.

Has anyone ever taken the time to figure out if any of the preseason predictors are consistently better than the others?

I've seen some analysis. Will try to find the link. The short answer is none of them are particularly good at picking the "non obvious" teams or ranking the teams in proper order (eg, they may get 15 of 25 teams right, but maybe 5 or so will be within 2 spots of the preseason position).

Since 2011 Steele has been in the top 4 every year, and #1 over the last 5 years

Thanks Saunders

So, why is everyone here so ready to crown NU at 10-2? They return less than Tennessee and NU lost 7 games last year.

I think Tennessee has WAY more talent stock piled than NU and QB play that trumps NU's 100 times over. Maybe you are endorsing the SEC as being tough?
