Pick and roll

Can someone please explain the theory around how this is coached now?

I can’t remember the last time I saw a player pivot to shield the defender away and look for the ball like we were coached to do.

A little thing that drives me crazy watching basketball now days.

There are two ways that it is done these days.

1. You just switch when you see the pick and roll happening.

2. You hedge out and help the guy getting picked and you sprint back to your man to prevent the roll guy from scoring. (This was the way I was taught in high school).

I’m talking the guy setting the pick and rolling to the basket. There is no roll anymore.
