Four-Star Recruit
Some key pieces won't be on the team next year... what should our primary targets be during the offseason?
 
It obviously depends on who comes back, but a ball handler (not necessarily a true point guard) will be our biggest need next year with Hoiberg & Lawrence out of eligibility.

Would be nice to have someone who can create their own shot at the end of the shot clock (could be the same player as above).

A big who can shoot. Berke could fill this roll - his shot looks good and he consistently makes threes in warmups, but not so much in games. Jarusevicius could also fill this roll if his back is better.

Curtis needs to put on about 20-30 lbs. of muscle so he can play inside effectively in the B1G.

A big that can rebound.

More athleticism - some of this can come from Rhymes who redshirted and/or Lanier & Rice who signed in November.

Good list. I don't know what to make of Curtis; he just seems so stiff and slow. He's nothing like Mast (who is also pretty stiff and slow) from what I've seen.
 
Job 1: Convince Sandford to stay one more year.
Offer Tanner from Vandy an unheard of NIL deal and force him to say no!!
With that being unlikely, we need an athletic PG who can shoot, defend and disrupt a game on O and on D. I was shocked that Houston got beat (busted my bracket for sure) but I like the athleticism that is shown by that team. We also need a big, space swallowing, athletic true center.

Top incoming recruit: Jacob Lanier (No. 90)

Both Lanier and Colin Rice (No. 94) will help Fred Hoiberg's team reload this season after losing a trio of seniors (and perhaps its best player, too). Both incoming freshmen should be physically ready -- Lanier is 6-foot-5 and Rice is 6-8 -- to compete in the Big Ten.


Portal priorities: This question is tied to a lot of unknowns for Nebraska. Sandfort is emerging as an NBA prospect after a strong season. Will he pursue the draft? Essegian should return after missing most of the season due to injury, if he's granted a medical redshirt. If we assume Sandfort returns, then Hoiberg might want to boost his backcourt depth with Sam Hoiberg and Lawrence both leaving. But Fred Hoiberg has enough on his bench, along with the expected return of Essegian, to thrive. His real concern -- assuming Sandfort is back -- will be the loss of Mast, who has been an imperative standout for Nebraska's frontcourt. Buyuktuncel might play a bigger role but it won't be surprising if Nebraska pursues more depth in its frontcourt. -- Medcalf

The good news is while losing Hoiberg, Mast, and Lawrence hurts, if Sandfort returns (which I think he will) I think we'll be good for another good season. I wouldn't bet on a 20 game winning streak to start but that sort of thing honestly involves a little luck too so I'd say that of any team.

I think we'll be a tourney team again next year.

From his post game interviews it sounds like he is coming back, but you never know!

He is young & seems like the game is a little fast for him. Hope he sticks around, as i think he still needs another year to develope.
 
Just read in Shatel's story about the season that sources within the athletic department tell him that the basketball teams revenue share/NIL will go from 4M to 8M next year.
