Africa -- An Umlazi mother was horrified when she examined her newborn daughter to find that part of the baby's little finger on her left hand was missing.
A nurse told her that the baby might have swallowed her own finger or that it could have been eaten by a cockroach.
Makhosi Gumede, 20, from W section in Umlazi, was overjoyed when she gave birth to Samkelisiwe at Umlazi's Prince Mshiyeni Memorial Hospital on September 26.
'My child probably ate her finger or maybe it was eaten by a cockroach...'
"When she was born she had 10 fingers. On October 2, I noticed that part of her pinkie was missing.
I waited for the doctor to tell me what was going on, but he knew nothing of the incident.
