Play the Youth/speed

Folks --- I have said from the beginning that we should be playing the youth and playing for the development of the future. We have not the talent to compete now for anything and if the big picture is what is in view --- and it should be --- then play the youth. Play Helu and Castille primarily --- and move Castille to fullback. Start playing Patrick Witt a great deal --- he needs at least 1/4 a game per game under his belt (or more) so as to be prepared for next year. Better still play him more than that --- we need to begin to prep him to start.

Then convert some DB's to LB'ers so as to field more speed. Get Gillyan and Paul out there a lot --- even if they do not have their routes down quite yet let them learn on the fly. It may be true that some of the older, less athletic players know the assignments better --- but they will get this team nowhere this year --- so play the guys that we will need next year now --- work out the kinks.

This year whether we play the youth or stay with the guys they are playing now we'll likely not be over .500. So even if the youth movement costs us a game or so this season it will likely gain us a game or two or more for the next season.

right on bro!! we need speed at the skill positions..let them play it's the way they'll get better..you can teach technique but you can't teach speed either you have it or you don't

What happened to in Bo we trust?

Do you think that the coaches sit around the conference table and pick the slowest, worst players for each position? After seeing them in practice and in five games, I suspect they know a bit more about their abilities than the internet posters.

How about ... letting the experts decide who plays where and trust that they are getting it right.

Here I'd argue that being removed from the immediate situation makes it even easier to see the big picture. Bo is bent on winning and winning now --- this is evident based upon his quotes. He seemingly (an interpretation here) is not willing to play players prone to making mental mistakes and who do not know the assignments well --- for fear of big plays going against us. So, the trade off he is living with is that younger, faster , more athletic people are not in view for PT at a position where a more experienced, knowledgeable player resides. Because he is bent on winning now --- something that we, from a distance, can see clearly will not happen, he is not seemingly thinking future. He should consider moving young players (So and Fr --- even a few Jr's) from Db to LB, from OLB to MIKe, from MIKE to DE --- make moves to maximize speed. He should consider Castille at FB and moving some larger possession WR to TE and get faster players in at WR (why not try Mendoza at WR?) --- All these moves would be experimental and might result in less immediate success for this year. But we are going nowhere this year anyway.

If no real move to youth is made --- if Witt does not see a great deal of PT this season then next season will be compromised. Rebuilding typically means sacrifice today with future rewards in view. It is time to admit that NU is going nowhere this season (something obvious before this season began and is more obvious now) --- Bo, bent on winning now (a good thing) is not seemingly yet aware that the time to play for the future is now. That is not a serious indictment against Bo --- he will see this soon.

Before the season began I argued that you never, never, ever, go into a rebuilding year with a senior at QB. Ganz is a fine player and is certainly better (right now) than Witt --- but we need Witt for the future and he needs to play now. Same with the youth at most positions. Lket them get the experience now --- it will pay off next year.
